Is it copyright or are they photo phobic? Not that I'm going to take my SLR into Apocalyptica on September 1 (it's bulky enough).

If you mean during gigs, all those mobile phones in the air are quite annoying.
Some bands don't care, some does care. Some bands request not to take any pic/videos during the gig.

maybe because most people are more invested in taking a gizillion pics to post on facebook and a bunch of videos to get youtube hits rather than enjoying the gig.

flashes are annoying when trying to perform, not to mention when you use a DSLR with say a f/1.4 lens you can get pics good enough to sell, and most bands would prefer to get a cut when their image is sold.

i hate it when people stick their phones and camereas in my face, you have paid to see a gig not to watch it through a screen either enjoy the moment or fuck off.

I have a Canon 40D and usually use my 50mm F/1.4 at shows but a couple weeks ago I went to my friend's band play and brought my 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II and got some really great shots, haven't had a chance to do any photoshop work on them yet -

I usually use 50mm (as I use on my course if need be) but I'm finding 30 mm works just as well.
