Some bands don't care, some does care. Some bands request not to take any pic/videos during the gig.

flashes are annoying when trying to perform, not to mention when you use a DSLR with say a f/1.4 lens you can get pics good enough to sell, and most bands would prefer to get a cut when their image is sold.

On a side note, what camera/lenses are in your rig? I have a Canon 40D and usually use my 50mm F/1.4 at shows but a couple weeks ago I went to my friend's band play and brought my 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II and got some really great shots, haven't had a chance to do any photoshop work on them yet -

The ones I'm going to be using are a Canon 1000D, also a backup Nikon (I don't want a flogged camera.). I usually use 50mm (as I use on my course if need be) but I'm finding 30 mm works just as well.
