I love this song but does anyone think the bass and drumbeat don't quite work alongside the rest of it? They sound too upbeat and bouncy for what is such a melancholic tune. I think it'd benefit from being sparser.

The bass and drums just follow the rhythm of the strummed acoustic. It'd be interesting to hear a mix minus those parts as you may well be right Don.
Personally, I think it would lack momentum like that and I think it's great the way it is.

I didn't mean the song is 'great' I meant that the arrangement and production are 'great' for the song. Sorry, that obviously wasn't clear. Still like the song though

Way to double standard. On topic: Personally I love the production on the track. Don't think it's would sound as good without the bass and drums how they are. Don't sound out of place at all to me. It's a really cool track. Don't understand why it didn't get a wider release. Definitely one of the things that I loved most in this release cycle. All the more for the weird way we got it.

I don't get why it got such a strange release, considering it's one of the eras stand out tracks (for me anyway)

The release must have been a mistake seeing that Noel's never mentioned it

I don't get why it got such a strange release, considering it's one of the eras stand out tracks (for me anyway) Tradition started by Oasis, continued by NGHFB, tuck a superb b-side / extra away on an obscure release, and get the fans moaning and making endless threads, "if only so-and-so would have been included instead of such and such, BHN would've been better.." see lets' all make believe etc.. Alone on the rope, best 89p I ever spent.

I had already downloaded it but I sent them an email asking why they removed it from the site (curiosity n all...). They replied to me apologising for this and stated they had refunded me the 89p. Crazy!

This. It's one of his best songs in years. Agreed, IMO should have been on the album. Yes, it's better than The Good Rebel (which is terrible) and Simple Game of Genius which are far too lumpy and dadrock for me. Other than that, his other b-sides have been stellar.

I like this but if it was on the album it would be the second worst track IMO, ahead of Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks

This is a brilliant track. Maybe my favorite non-album track.

When I was a young fan, all those bsides and unreleased great songs were like a gold mine. Great time.

This is a brilliant track. Maybe my favorite non-album track. Yeah i agree with that. It will probably be on the next album but wouldnt surprise me if its another itunes bonus song or on one of the japanese releases. I think its too good to not be released.

Honestly, I see something like that happening. Similar to Lord Don't Slow Me Down. Some EP with Alone on the Rope, A Simple Game of Genius, and maybe the studio version of Freaky Teeth on it.
