Although there wasn't much complaining coming out of Chris Martin's mouth Friday night (instead, he replaced it with gratuitous "ad-libbed" lyrics indicating his familiarity and excitement for a city which I reckon he only heard about the night before), you can pretty much replace "Radiohead" with "Coldplay" in the above quote. I've seen more energetic crouds at Lawrence Welk reunion shows. Martin's flamboiant stage-prancing was almost insulting to watch -- akin to Jet's lead singer's vain efforts to get the crowd "into it" before the Oasis show. If anyone in this crowd was "into it," they could have fooled me. Everyone around us was just standing there, sometimes doing that retarded little sway, arms folded, and clapping, not even really cheering at the end of songs. Granted, it was difficult to tell where the songs began and ended, because they all pretty much sounded the same to me.
Why did I put this here? Because after my experience seeing them live, I'm thoroughly convinced that Coldplay has NOTHING on Oasis. Coldplay's got some good tunes, only problem is, they all sound exactly like their album filler songs. "Fix You" is a beautiful song (the only one worth shit on X&Y IMHO), but ending your concert with a song like that makes me want to go take a nap, not go back out and pound a few more beers. Hardly anyone was singing, screaming, jumping, or doing anything that could remotely be described as being mad fer it. Oasis songs, and their live show, are perfect for you and your friends to shout along to in a drunken stupor, and that, my friends, is the kind of feeling that Rock N Roll is all about. Not standing there in a daze listening to some piano-playing falsetto prance around pretending he's Baryshnikov and droning on about white shadows and some shit.
Of course, this is all my very biased yet very solid opinion, and I realize the crowd's reaction may be rather different across the pond.

Answers for all... CASTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW R U GEEZER! I'm great. I'm pissed off I can't make it back to NYC for AtN festival with all you top blokes (too many bills and not enough money, plus my classes will be in full swing then), so make sure to hoist one for me. Well, I suppose now that we're posting it for all the world to see, I won't feel ashamed in being too lazy to say in a pm that I really want to get her to come to Cleve for the Sept 30th show with me (and if I'm not enough, I've got front row center tickets ).

Hey Pat! I'm glad to see you're alright! i was wondering where you've been in the last weeks.. and your feelings about Fix You are exact the same to me. How can they close a gig with that song?

heh yeah they seem like they'd be like that live. However, Radiohead live is a different story. That'd be awesome. Marijuana would be a definite neccessity for Radiohead though

It is interesting to note that an american started this thread>>>
It is a quite a common fact that americans are wuite dull and boring at concerts hence thata why i think coldplay are a band that feed off the crowds excitment and singning. If you have seen or heard there performance at glastonbury 2002 it would have blown your head away. They probably are lets face it the biggest band in the world at the moment not oasis... Oasis are has beens even though i love em to bits. Give Coldplay a chance i know there not exactly the same sought of band as oasis but you cant compete with oasis cause they were revolutionary so dont go slaggin off coldplay.....
cheers

i think coldplay have went through a transformation, if you look at that live dvd, which was filmed in 2002 and came out 2003, they were good live, but not spectacular, the coldplay now is stunning, and i mean that, at the dublin gig everyone was singing and jumping, just as much so as oasis 3 years ago
