Kinda glad I never said anything negative about his playing (I did say the solo in this song could be better but that's a criticism of the actual solo, not the playing). He pretty much hit the nail on the head in terms of the reaction to him on this board though.
Hope to see you in Croke Park in June Tim ;D

Well we know someone on the tour reads the board. @ Tim - tell Noel we want to hear A Simple Game of Genius live Bit of a useless rant, though. The solo is an anticlimax. Seems to me he even admits that in the rant despite blaming it on others and taking none of it He's not a horrible guitarist...just not amazing. Sorry if you took it personally but going online and insulting the fans that are going to the concerts because they have opinions...probably not the BEST idea though. I'm not sure where you get off telling people not to talk about their favorite artists for fear of upsetting the session musicians. That's kind of the death of a fanbase. You're probably best off just not reading the boards.

I fucking love Tim's playing on Half the world away, I can't listen to it without that 3-note pedal steel like riff he plays, the (little) singing he gets to do is flawless, really nailing the harmonies on Good Rebel.
Noel's solo on Let the load was pretty crap too I if I recall correctly, but I don't really like that song anyway so I'm not the best judge.
Did Gem really do many memorable solos? - 4 letter word is obviously quality, techincally he's OK, but live he would just do carbon copies of Noel's solos pretty much note for note from the records.

I don't think he missed any notes or that anyone was accusing of that so I don't know what he's on about. The solo is just an anticlimax. He's not a horrible guitarist...just not amazing. Ideally I would want someone of the caliber of Mike Rowe on every instrument. Unfortunately that's not possible. Sorry if you took it personally but going online and insulting the fans that are going to the concerts because they have opinions...probably not the BEST idea though. I think his problem are the people who ARE saying his playing he's shite and the people who are saying they'd rather Gem was there instead. TBH, I don't blame him.

Well he's gonna be pissed if he finds a thread with people calling him shit etc so fair play to him. Obviously I wasn't at the gig but the performance of the song sounded great to me. Hope they play it when they hit the UK again. Well it IS me, despite, what happened to my post-perhaps my American bravado was too off putting for your moderators..Yeah, sucks to be called so much, probably by most who have little to no life out of thinking about Noel, so I feel a bit sad for them. Listen- I'm really sorry your favorite band in the world broke up, at least for now. If you really, really think you can do better than me, please, contact his management company, get an audition, good luck and god bless! Tim Take it easy, Tim!

Yeah...far as I can see no one was forcing their opinion on him shouting it out at concerts. HE came and sought out a place on the Internet where people discuss HFB performances and when he didn't like what he found he insulted and swore at members of the fanbase and told people to shut up. You know what? He can grow up and either let it roll off his back or stop reading.

That can't actually be him. If it is, then wow, I just lost some respect for him.
It's never nice reading negative comments about yourself so I get why he'd be a little pissed, but you're playing with one of the greatest songwriters of the last 20 years and you're actually going to sign up here and respond like that? It's one thing to interact with the fans, but to rant at us for not enjoying your playing? Lighten up a bit, Tim. You'd do yourself a lot more good if you let it roll off and made light of the situation.
Why don't we have fun instead of getting angry at each other? Take fan suggestions for your hair style at the next gig or something like that.
Still don't believe its him, tho.

Jesus Christ. I've read so much crap from you squares for too long. Stand in front of my fucking amps, and I'll let you hear what I hear.I was asked to play with Noel after his other friend didn't seem to work out, and at the last minute, I came in, and have played what I've been asked to play. You think Noel would let me half ass my way thorough his songs? Listen-I'm not Gem. He's a cool guy, have met them all over the years, I respect them all. I've no dog in this race. I'm hired to play Noels songs. He asked me to play the notes of the girl singer's solo in LTLSALOM. That's all...A few rehearsals, and then we started playing it live in South America. Whatever, people. I've played with lots of artists over the years, as a bassist, and guitarist, and I'm sorry if I don't blow your Oasis minds, with my playing. I'll bet most of you have no idea what I'm playing, anyway, as this is really only Noel's gig, and yeah, I probably don't get the sonic support from the front of house that Noel does-some of my musician friends at gigs have said as such So, when we play again in the Uk , bring your too cool for school haircuts, and matching jackets round my way, cause I'd LOVE you to get to know what it's like. I was told this gig was all about the songs, so lighten up all you Francises, your IDOL asked me to play with him, at least for this tour and he's been nothing but cool and open to me about what I do. So, take a crap, have a drink, say hi to me if you dare, but really, Jesus. Get a fucking life. Thanks this site needed(or some people in here) this. Keep it up.

It can't seriously be him. Can it?
If it is Tim, what did you mean by "your favorite band split up at least for now". Did Noel mention something about Oasis reunion? ;D
No seriously, I would never imagined HFB musicians to read internet forum. What a waste of time, go rehearse or get drunk or enjoys the groupies.

Perhaps you and I were both just being eager beavers, but it seems like something about it is going round his head.

Hey, so a little reboot, kids. I stubbled on this link to see a video of us playing a new song, and probably made a mistake by scrolling through your responses. I'm human-and a working musician, ego and all. After a couple of drinks after our last show in Chile, I posted here out of anger, so karmically, and after speaking to my better half, just wanted to say a couple things and slip back into the Matrix...I love playing Noel's songs- and am honored to see so many of you support me, and show nothing but good vibes to us all HFB's. If ya don't like us, or me, I'm sorry. I only hope that I can do justice to playing Noels' songs for you. I am what I am, been mostly a bass player and rhythm guitarist, so the lead thing is really new to me, but I have no fear of it, and get a kick out of playing them, I think, better each time we play. I was just taken aback at the vitriol, and yeah, I agree with some of you that I should probably just not read anything here- after all this is a site for fans. But just so you know, I wish none of you ill will, and look forward to playing more this summer. The crowds from our very fist show have been mind-blowing. I didn't expect or realize the reaction to Noel, as in America, while Oasis was a thing well done and all, it's just not the phenomenon that it his in pretty much the rest of the world..So, everyone, honestly, god bless, and thanks for being so passionate about an artist and his music. Even if it comes at my expense at times. Cheers,Tim

^ Very much appreciate that, Tim. Thank you for addressing that. Glad that you are having a good time on the tour. Any chance of you knowing if they are gonna let a couple people in the choir at the UK festival dates later this year have a crack at that vocal solo. No insult to you intended. I think it's a bit much to ask any single guitarist to fully translate what 2 rather large voices did on record.

Tim - apologies. "Total clown" was a bit strong, in hindsight...
From a fan's perspective it's a bit frustrating to see someone who, by his own admission, is a bass player and rhythm guitarist struggling through lead parts while Noel himself is strumming chords.
I think you've got to remember that criticism is almost always a lot louder than praise on the internet and you're never going to get a lot of love for being at the side of the stage getting 99.9% of what Noel's asking you to do right.
Bottom line - if people (myself included) genuinely believed you were doing a shit job they'd be able to point to a lot more than one boring solo on a song the band's only just started playing. Nobody who's going to the gigs is coming back and saying "I had the BEST time at the Noel gig last night... but that Tim Smith bloke was shite". It's just internet nitpicking.

You're right about the criticism being louder from the forum but if Noel wasn't happy with what he was doing on stage, he would have punted him. Just keep doing what you're doing Tim.

I think ironically this whole episode could greatly increase his popularity. One of the main complaints about the HFBs has been that they're too bland and characterless - we can't say that about Tim now! So he's basically a bassist-cum-rhythm guitarist who's got an amazing opportunity to go around the world playing lead guitar for Noel Gallagher - playing what Noel tells him to pretty much perfectly. And then he gets pissed one night, as we all do, and tells us to all fuck off - which we probably deserved - but then is man enough to come back and apologise the next day. I say good luck to him, and will applaud him greatly if and when I next see him play.
