I know I’m preaching to the perverted but fuck that! "But they sound like a Beatles cover band". Assholes like to use that term about oasis. Now what the fuck does that mean anyway? Is it because Oasis has covered too many Beatles tunes or is because they sound a bit like The Beatles? If it’s because oasis did some Beatles covers …well fortunately that argument is so delightfully stupid that I can’t even get worked up about it. They have never used a cover as an A-side and there are no covers on the albums.
So it must be about oasis sounding a bit like The Beatles right? It’s funny that when oasis sounds like beatles the most, people love them (stuff like She’s electric). But when they sound like D’you know what I mean? and My big mouth, people starts to fucking hate them. It’s a good way to keep them down if you think about it. They can’t sound like Beatles because that is just a rip off. But when they turn the 60’s thing down, people shun them like the plague. Some of the most well liked oasis tunes are the ones with the heaviest 60’s wibe. Think of all the ingredients that make up a great 60’s tune. Why would anybody just throw them away in the name of originality? I would rather listen to a bad song from the 60’s than a bad one from the 80’s. So don’t give me that “Beatles cover band” crap!! It’s part of what makes them so fucking great.

I think it's in large part because of their breaking of the U.S.(whole other argument). But the fact is in '96 they broke North America. Even Coldplay hasn't had 3 hits on an album like Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova. Oasis got peoples attention with their haircuts, the fact that their British and their admiration for The Beatles. Un-educated people just accept the comparisons as fact. I've turned so many people on to Oasis by playing them a wide variety of their tunes. And almost everyone is blown away by their range. Everyone expects all of their songs to sound like Penny Lane or something.
Show me a melodic rock band not influenced by The Beatles.

They steal the odd riff or lyric, but it's more tribute than anything. Oasis are a great band and the Beatles have a totally different sound to them. The Beatles never recorded a song like Gas Panic nor have they ever recorded a song with a solo like Live Forever or supersonic.

They are only compared to the beatles because the beatles were the most famous british band to hit america ever and anything from britain that sounds like them or is "extremely british" like the way oasis are(as is why is think oasis never stuck in the US but thats another story) is why they are labeled in the US as being too much like the beatles. It's like the pot calling the kettle black or something like that. It's like accusing oasis of being british even though that's what they are.

I think the main similarity between Oasis and Bealtes songs is the arrangements. Owen Morris talks about it on the DM dvd, and I think it's that that is similar. In terms of actual tune or melody there's very little someone could put their finger on if they were challenged. Only the odd thing here and there like the outro of D'yer Wanna Be A Spaceman, which is no more than any other band.
