I'm more of the 8.5 variety tbh.
The album has some of their best work and it really depends on how one judges it. If it's on the basis of it being an actual album then it's probably an 8 imo. But if it's on the basis of it being a b-side album then it's definitely 8.5 and above.
The Masterplan, Acquiesce, It's Good To Be Free, Rockin' Chair, Stay Young, I Am The Walrus and Headshrinker are all brilliant.
Underneath the Sky is probably one of the more underrated Oasis tracks
Going Nowhere, Listen Up (better live, than it ever was on record. Too long on record), Half The World Away (just a tad), Talk Tonight (again. Better live than on record), and Fade Away (The lyrics are great, the energy is great, probably one of Noel's best songs. But the recording is really sub-par. Are all overrated imo.
Swamp Song- great gig opener. Bad track

To me, that is the best Oasis Cd in my collection. If I could only have 1 album to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be that one.

Talk Tonight, The Swamp Song, Listen Up, and Rocking Chair are all too long for me which usually makes me avoid listening to the album at all. The Masterplan, despite being the popular favourite here, is one of my personal Oasis worsts. Other than these it's not bad. Acquiesce is undoubtedly a classic and Stay Young is always a happy, energetic tune. Fade Away and Headshrinker are good too.

For what it is, it is a 9, but as far as comprehensiveness goes, i give it a D probably. But thats problaby just because I have OCD with music and must have each B-side together from the albums that spwaned them, etc... Too unorganized for me

But the individual tracks would all rank higher than average in most cases. This is a simple case of the sum of the parts equals less than the parts really. Don't get me wrong, it's a great disc and I'm glad to have gotten this back in '98 when singles were next to impossible to find stateside, but it doesn't work as an album should flow-wise. I give it a solid 8.5 or 9 though. (I could've done without bad recordings of The Swamp Song, I Am The Walrus, Listen Up, and even Fade Away)

I've never really listened to the Masterplan as an album before, just as a compilation (if that makes sense). Unlike what the others say I think it flows quite well, I skipped over Swamp Song & I Am The Walrus though as I can't stand those versions. I has almost everything except the rocker, not punk rock like Fade Away or Headshrinker, but something like with in your face lyrics, I can't think of an example as I haven't gotten any sleep at all lol. But taking out The Swamp Song and I Am The Walrus I think this is a mega album, I'd give it a solid 9. I don't think it would've been a good 3rd album replacing Be Here Now, as it doesn't have that epicness that Be Here Now has but it still is a very good album. I'm happy with giving it a 9.

With most b-sides I like to have them with the singles, but with Oasis at that point most of their b-sides were as good (or better than) the album tracks. I actually like how they're all together on one 'album,' just makes it easier for listening in the car...less disc changing...
I'd give it a 9. The Masterplan is amazing, as is Talk Tonight and Acquiesce and the others..

Didn't Rolling Stone rate The Masterplan 4 out of 5 stars?

8/10 for me but one or two song swaps make it a comfortable 9. I personally would drop Swamp Song & I Am The Walrus for Step Out & Cloudburst. Surely the best indicator for the strength of early Oasis is the quality of this B'side collection!

I've gone with 9 but only because of The Swamp Song, Stay Young and the I Am The Walus cover. Other wise it's an excellent album.
