On a Coldplay binge ATM. Fantastic band, In My Place, The Scientist, Clocks is the best run of consecutive singles by any band ever, and all from the same album!
Yellow is such a great great tune, the fact this band get so much hate on this forum is a joke. I bet if Liam never slated them nobody on here would either...

A fantastic band they were, but not now.

The thing with Coldplay is that they started out really great with their first 2 albums, lost focus with X&Y and finally sold out with Mylo Xyloto (I mean, don't tell me they cooperated with Rihanna for any other reason than to sell more albums). Viva La Vida was fine and the title song is still one of the best pop tunes of the last decade, their early stuff is mostly good and a few tracks from X&Y are too. I guess many are just disappointed that such a promising band went that downhill. And let's face it, Chris Martin is a pretty terrible frontman - utterly harmless, without any charisma whatsoever. And he destroyed Live Forever when he sang it with Noel live.

I absolutely love the second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head! But the other ones are just... ok.

I recently watched their "10 Best Tracks" video on NME, and I have to say that the tunes are fine, but there was a serious lack of balls in it. I felt like going and taking a nap after the 3 minute video. With Oasis you generally can get amped up over the tunes, not so much with Coldplay. Different vibe i suppose.
In all honesty, I've never listened to an entire album by them. I imagine it would be 10 or 12 tracks of mid-tempo tunes that do little more than make a nice backing to a quality nap. I like their singles well enough, but none of them have made me want to buy an album.
To your point about those three consecutive singles . . . Wonderwall, DLBIA, and DYKWIM?

I absolutely love the second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head! But the other ones are just... ok. I gotta agree with this post, although I do think VLVODAAHF is a very good album. AROBTTH is terrific from start to finish, but their 1st album I always felt was vastly overrated. X&Y had about 4 good songs on it, and their newest one basically puts me to sleep. I'm shocked that it took them three years to come up with such a lame follow-up to VLVODAAHF. I still think Travis and Starsailor are superior bands to Coldplay. Please don't hate me for that.

the first two records are brilliant. my only thing with coldplay is, well, when was the last time someone was inspired to pick up an instrument after hearing a coldplay song?

They actually do make good songs sometimes. It's just too infrequent to bother with them as a band.
Yellow is pretty fucking amazing. Course, it loses some of the amazingness due to the fact that Wonderwall is similar (ish) and might just be the best mass appeal song of the last few decades.

Are taking a piss man? Yellow uses the exact same chord structure of AATW!

I think Coldplay ARE a great band, but not great at the moment. It's like Oasis, they are a great band, but you can't say their latter albums were great. And Chris Martin is a very good frontman - the fact that he doesn't have any charisma and comes across as quite gawky is what makes him what he is, he always seems to have great fun which is good to see.
A Rush of Blood To The Head is a 10/10 album - more interesting and darker than what they are doing now - cheesy pop basically. They're still one of the very best bands live but Mylo Xyloto is a massive sell out - Paradise is teeny bop crap. It's not a 'great pop song' - Viva La Vida got to number one because it was a clever and great pop song, but to be inspired by 'She was just a giiiiiiiiiiiirl, who expected the worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrld...... Para.. Para.. Paradise!!'? Don't take the piss guys.
There's a handful of great tunes on Mylo Xyloto but I can't listen to the rest unfortunately. A massive let down considering Viva La Vida was a brilliant album. I'm sure though that if they get their heads together then they can make another brilliant album but it looks as if their main priority was trying to help EMI get out of their money problems.

They are a bunch f sell out. A second U2. Radio friendly, rock not noisy. Cheesy pop songs. Boring boring band. I only like the first album even if it's a little boring it has soul and some very good tunes. The rest is a band selling out more and more album after album. The cheery on the top is the duet with Rihana.

Wonderwall, acoustic, basic, stripped down. Yellow, even more so. All Around the World, two full orchestras. Humans share 50% of their DNA with bananas, and a lot less with cement, molded into human shape. Which one is more similar on a basic viewing level?

You probably think that LBL is a DLBIA clone, and TDOYAM is somehow a copy of TIOBI. Ridiculous!

You made a big deal about it in the other thread too. It seems to me that you have a permanent man period or something

To me, if a song is great, then it is great irregardless of whether it is similar to another song. For example, I don't like TDOYAM more (or less) because it has a slight resemblance to TIOBI. Or the The Roller, even-though it draws heavily upon Lennon.
