In my opinion, these are probably two of the top four songs Noel has released since leaving Oasis (the other two being Everybody's On The Run and AKA...What a Life! & it's worth mentioning Freaky Teeth would be pushing it had it actually been released, anyways...) and I fucking love them both. Amazing to think the same original song wound up with these two vastly different animals.
I'm 99% sure of which song will win the poll but what really interests me is by how much.
I mean, I think I'd probably vote for If I Had a Gun... myself, it's an amazing song in its own right and it has additional emotional attachment for me as I proposed to it a couple of weeks back and will be the first dance at my wedding next year. But Shoot A Hole Into The Sun has been on an almost constant loop since its release, and that first listen on headphones blew me away.
So who's in which camp?

Been waiting for Noel to do something like this for ages, looking forward to the AA album. Also agree with your choices AKA... What a Life! and Freaky Teeth being Noel's best work.

I think shoot a hole into the sun is very very average. It doesnt go anywhere and just ambles its way through. It is good for 30seconds but it just repeats itself after that, very different to the falling down remix which I love. If I had a gun on the other hand is beautiful

Definitely Shoot a hole into the sun. I've never been a fan of IIHAG, I find it a bit boring. Before listening SAHITS I expected to not like it at all but it really surprised me in a good way. I really really like it a lot more than I thought.

If I Had A Gun is better by miles. Shoot a Hole into the Sun is hands down the worst song Noel's released post-Oasis.

If i had a gun is one of the best Noel Gallagher´s songs ever.
Shoot a hole is shit.

Voted for IIHAG.
I like SAHITS, but the first 6 minutes are quite repetative, and its only when it gets towards the end things fianlly start to happen.

Yeah, pretty much everything that changed from the soundcheck "demo" to the final version made it worse, the production is a little flat too. IIHAG is still a great song, top 10 post-2000 songs without a doubt. Shoot a Hole Into The Sun is just weird...there are promising bits in it but as a song it fails to intrigue me. I'd rather listen to I Can See A Liar or Beatles And Stones, honestly... |

I love them both. I prefer IIAG because it's a great song song.
But I'm glad Noel has done something new and SAHITS is very promising.
As for the production, I prefer SAHITS to IIAG,
IIAG's production is too creamy and radio friendly, it has always annoyed me, but the song is great anyway.

I like it and its like aural Jesus stoned, but IIHAG is a lot more palatable to regular listening. Well excited for the AA release on whole, but I'm hoping that the album version isn't as pretentious as SAHITS can sound. |
