Davy Jones of the Monkees has died of an apparent heart attack at aged 66. The singer had been on a solo tour this month and had complained of chest pains the previous evening and was admitted to a hospital in Stuart Florida. Jones was born in Manchester, England and started acting as a child, though he got his big break in 1965 when he joined The Monkees. The group had a hugely successful television series, and a slew of hit songs in the late 1960s. At their peak in 1967 they sold more records than the Beatles. www.thisdayinmusic.com/pages/davy_jones

what a shame. 66 is still very young.
it's incredible, when you think about this… the monkees were created by the entertainment industry to simply come up with a fake beatles. they were forced to playback their vocals and instruments, but after their third album they rebelled against their producers and were finally able to play what they wanted to play. they got respect from guys like frank zappa due to their creative output when they were given the independence to play their own material. (just listen to "head.")

Does this mean Bowie can revert back to David Jones now?

"Take the last train to clarksville" RIP A tune that's been ripped off by pretty much every guitar band since. RIP Davy.

Everybody knows "Daydream Believer", but not many people don't know that even The Sex Pistols has done a cover of their song. (I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone)
I I I I I'm not your steppin' stoneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Davy had a his tambourine far before Liam Gallagher.
