Too many threads where 'music is shit' appears 10 times per page, with the words modern or mainstream sprinkled through.
It's a little late, but I thought this could be cool. Watch, learn.
Machu Picchu - The Strokes Wetsuit - The Vaccines Gold on the Ceiling - The Black Keys Wigwam - Beady Eye Ethiopia - Red Hot Chilli Peppers Rosie - The Kooks Jump into the Fog - The Wombats Operation - Yuck That's Where You're Wrong - Arctic Monkeys A Simple Game of Genius - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds
I'm pretty shit with track listing and ect, so it shouldn't be taken as definitive by any means, and you guys should do it too, just keep it to about 10 songs, and it should be known that I am more likely to try listen to an unknown song surrounded by songs-bands I like than one among thousands where the genre could be anything from screamo to hardcore dubstep or something.
enjoy babes

These were my top ten tunes from 2011: 1. Under Cover of Darkness by The Strokes 2. Weekend by Smith Westerns 3. Endless Blue by The Horrors 4. Glass Jar by Gang Gang Dance 5. Hanging Onto Every Heartbeat by Cut Copy 6. Hawaiian Air by Friendly Fires 7. One Sunday Morning (Song for Jane Smiley’s Boyfriend) by Wilco 8. Boom by WILD FLAG 9. The Words That Maketh Murder by PJ Harvey 10. My Mistakes by Eleanor Friedberger
Broken Arrows used to be #9, didn't see the point in keeping it as we all know the tune.

that's twelve, but 2011 was a really good year for me musically. I could have added at least 20 more tunes that are about on the same level of these.
