Being a Jersey guy, born in Bruce's hometown, it's amazing the amount of people i know who have run into and met him. Some at restaurants, some in bars, one guy at his local gym in Shrewsbury and some just wandering the streets of Freehold. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised. He seems like s regular dude, a man of the people and very down to earth. Never dressed flashy away from the stage. Never knew U were from freehold. I spent many a day there winning and losing a lot of cash betti g the ponies , had a good connection there the costanzo boys were into some. "Milkshakes " for there ponies we made some big scores , ... Nice little track On topic. Bruce was always jeans and t shirt when he walked in to the pony. , to play unannounced Drank bud at the bar , just a regular guy man .... He almost went HOLLYWOOD marring thst young girl ,,but look he ended up with patti a jersey girl |

Here's a good place to start. It includes most of Born to Run that NYR suggested plus some other great songs from his first two albums. It's one of my favorite concerts of his. The performance of Its Hard To Be A Saint In The City from this gig is my favourite live performance of a song from Bruce. |

But the version of Lost In The Flood from this show is my favorite live performance ever. |

Sternumman Shouldn't this thread be consolidated with rock and roll star  ?? ........l I mean bruce plays Rock and Roll .....and is a star ......sorta like peyton plays Football ..and is in NFL. yet SEPERATE threads can be made  just sayin

The entire album is dark with the exception of No Surrender. It's not the lyrics I'm referring to. It's the sound. He tried to write the poppiest, catchiest album he could and dressed it up in synth pop. It's the only album of his I'd consider pop at all and it elevated him into the stratosphere and then he quickly stripped down the sound and dismantled the band after its success. He looks like a cartoon character in the BITUSA video. Then he is dressed like a preppy tool in tight pants dancing like Carlton from the Fresh Prince with Courtney Cox in the DITD video. Plus the cover of the album is his ass. true , your probably right then .......but interesting fact in 84 he sold out like 10 or more nights at the old byrne arena ( meadowlands ) .....i caught 3 , on the last night , he changed the setlist so much he only played 3 tunes off born in usa .....he came on and said : "this ones for the hardcore fans " and instead of opening with USA he opened with HUNGREY HEART AND PLAYED OVER 5 HOURS ....... best gig ever .......but i guess he did go poppish for a brief bit Took this over here because I'm sure people have heard enough from me about Springsteen in that thread. Just watch this video again if you haven't seen it in a long time. It's cringe worthy. Don't forget they also made dance remixes of that song too. I was only eight at the time so I experienced the album different than you. My Parents were the big Springsteen fans and they were the ones that brainwashed me into being a fan by not playing anything else in the car for most of my childhood. I clearly remember my father not being happy when that video was released though. I wonder how his career would have differed if he didn't make that album or at least make that album in that sound. He was very successful before but not sure if he was really considered a superstar. I think that album definitely hurt him getting new fans in the future because what kind of artist people perceive him as based on that album. There isn't one song (in those arangements) on that album that would fit on any of his other pre BITUSA albums with the exception of the River. It's not a very good representation of his musical output. I think it's funny that outside of Born To Run all of his hit singles sound nothing like the rest of the majority of his catalog. Agree with just about all that ......except it's hard for me to judge how much more popular or how many more fans he would have attracted , without that record I was 18 then and BRUCE WAS THE BIGGEST NAME IN MUSIC FOR ME BECAUSE I WAS FROM THE NYC , JERSEY AREA ........way bigger than bon jovi ever got there ...... Don't forget he made the cover of time , Newsweek , and rolling stone ( I think that one ) all in the same week when born to run broke ....and when they opened the byrne arena in 81 or 82 he opened the building with multiple night run that was telivised all over the news , and he even let the stations show his opening 3 song set ,THAT WAS UNHEARD OF THEN ..,. In the northeast then he was DEFINATLY a superstar , I would say he was in the USA. Actually , Hungry heart made him national ....... How his carrer would have differed is hard to gauge , but that LP put him in supertars status internationally for sure .......can't believe how corny that video is now , Courtney cox , lol |

^the 12" 'blaster' mix. also there was a 12" mix for born in the u.s.a. as well ('the freedom mix') that has a piano intro. a local top 40 station here in boston used to play them both back in the day  i know i'm in the minority but i put wrecking ball up there with any of his best albums. love it. he's what, 64 now? sure a lot of artists his age can do the greatest hits shows and tours (ray, macca, stones, neil young, etc. etc.), but not too many can stay musically relevant like the boss has over the years. |

That Freedom mix is ridiculous. Wrecking Ball doesn't hold up for me. There are some good tracks on it. I still like This Depression, Death to my Hometown, LOH&D, and the title track but the rest of the album doesn't do much for me. There is too much of Suzies violin on it. Easy Money and Shackled and Drawn are too country. The rap on Rocky Ground is silly and out of place. It's a better album than Working on a Dream and High Hopes though. |

one of the best versions of one of my all-time favorite bruce songs, and i was lucky enough to have been there. what an emotional, heart-felt rendition. every single note of this 9:01 is flawless, 110%.
after all these years this guy still goes out there night after night like he's heading straight for the electric chair immediately after. i don't know how he does it.

I like Magic and Wrecking Ball, both albums got me into Springsteen beyond the greatest hits.
My Hometown is my favourite Bruce song. Neil Young's cover of My Hometown is pretty special too.

Neil Young's cover of My Hometown is pretty special too. i LOVE wrecking ball. it's not for everyone i know, but for me right up there with any of them. not a bad effort at all for a guy well into his 60's dammit. |
