I'll be surprised if I get anything more than zero support on this, but does anyone else want andy and gem to stop writing songs? I just have trouble seeing what gives them the right to write Oasis songs. They joined the band after their fourth album (fifth counting MP), long past their legend had been built. The Oasis I got hooked on happened between '94-'97, and if you weren't in that Oasis, you're not in Oasis at all to me. Not to mention each of their songs sound like a second rate Noel song anyway, and they're only taking up space on the albums that a second rate Noel song would fill.
Noel and Liam are Oasis. When they write songs, they're Oasis songs. Andy and Gem are Andy and Gem. When they write songs they're Andy and Gem songs. Anybody feel the same way? Judging by how much everyone likes TUTS, probably not.

Yes, you will get zero support on this (from me, anyway). TUTS is a classic and KTDA and ABWR are both great songs.

Nope, Gem and Andy are great musicians and are as much of a part of Oasis and any other member was. Just because they weren't in the original line-up doesn't mean they are any less of a part, Guigs and Bonehead (as much as i like them) didn't write songs so i feel that Andy and Gem if anything must be putting more into Oasis.

Okay that's sorta what I expected
But ask yourself this, if Oasis only had two albums, HC and DBTT would you be as into them as you are now? I wouldn't, so to me, Andy and Gem can never really be a part of the Oasis I love and neither can their songs.

Back then it was all Noel, the other guys would do close to nothing. So ask yourself this, would you rather have a Noel solo act instead of Oasis?
Gem and Andy are part of the band. And just because you were a fan back in 94-97 doesn't really mean you have to like what they are now, but today Oasis is Noel, Liam, Gem and Andy. And they write great songs, 'A Bell Will Ring', 'Keep The Dream Alive' and 'Turn Up The Sun' are among the best on the new album.

If you got rid of the Andy and Gem songs from those two albums and concentrated on the others only, the same would still be true. By the way, I'm 18. I missed the hype. I'm not on some nostalgia trip every time I hear a new Oasis song. I'm in it for the music. I fucking love it.

OKay I think I should point out that I'm only 17. I got into Oasis after HC came out. I'm not saying I cherish being a fan from 94-97, I'm just saying I cherish the music they made in that period.

btw, I like DBTT more than WTSMG these days. i second that, but i know what bagel means... i like andy and gem's songs... and i think that they do have the right to write songs for oasis as long as noel accepts it...

Okay that's sorta what I expected But ask yourself this, if Oasis only had two albums, HC and DBTT would you be as into them as you are now? Pretty ridiculous argument to be honest mate. HC & DBTT wouldn't exist without DM and MG cos of the way the band have evolved, which means this forum wouldn't exist, shit it's the chicken and the egg, if a tree falls alone in a forest does it make a sound, shit i',m pissed ;D

if they're writing better songs than Noel, let them
if they're not, they won't be put on the LP
what do u want? guest writer Tony McCarroll coming in? lol!!
it's fairly clear DBTT is a better record than SOTSOG for example (also bearing in mind Gem helps Liam write his songs)..... and if DBTT sounded like SOTSOG i'd have been pissed off

Yeah I'm much more into DBTT than DM at the moment, cause I've heard DM so much.

I think Andy and Gem bring diversity to the band and that's good - def at this stage of things. Guigs and Bonehead were in it for the rock 'n' roll and andy and gem juts want to make music. I don't think they could've made an album like DM - but DBTT is a great album for them and from them. It's more of a band now instead of just the gallagher brothers and their pets...

You could have a monkey playing guitar, bass and drums in 94 and Noel would still have recorded DM and it would be just as great as it is.
No offense to Tony, Bonehead or Guigs, it's just that DM was a Noel solo album with Liam on vocals.

I fucking love it. same, cos im 16. i totally agree. by the time i got into oasis, when i first heard scyho, gem and andy were already in the band and i dont think you need to haev a reason to write songs. if they are good then they make it on an album if anything i dont see why liam has a right to write songs -.- he's the bloody singer! as if little james would have made it on any album if it werent for the fact he was already in oasis. as opposed to andy and gem who haev been writing for years. lol, but i do love liams songs now so its all good =)

i'm giving you zero support on this. andy and gem have written some great songs for oasis. gem wrote 'hung in a bad place', andy wrote 'thank you for the good times' and 'turn up the sun'
