Coldplay‘s fifth album ‘Mylo Xyloto‘ was by far the biggest selling rock album of 2011, with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in second place, figures released by the Official Chart Company show. ‘Mylo Xyloto’ shifted 908,000 units during the course of 2011, putting it comfortably ahead of Noel Gallagher‘s debut solo record which sold close to half a million copies. Coldplay also enjoyed the highest selling rock single of the past year, with ‘Paradise‘ selling over 400,000 copies as it became the first UK number one of 2012. Wow, HFB has sold more than Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys albums, that is impressive.

I only bought 2 albums from the list - NGHFB and Arctic Monkeys. Sadly my favourite albums from 2011 didn't make that list (The Rip Tide by Beirut, Philharmonics by Agnes Obel and more)

Those are great numbers for Rock, but check out these totals for all albums sold in 2011. Rock did really poorly this last year in sales figures, but with the cross over of so many genres, what is rock now-a-days anyhow?

The only ones I've got there are Coldplay and Noel's. Nice to see Noel beat Beyonce though. Nothing against the lass but she's a bit of a diva who thinks the world centres around herself and her silly husband. Coldplay's one is good but nowhere near as good Viva La Vida. Noel's is by far the best there though. And I must admit, Take That are good aswell.
