I rarely start posts on here, but I thought this warranted one perhaps. When Noel first started doing performances with the HFBs, people kept mentioning how uncomfortable and nervous Noel looked. I just had the opportunity to watch a few of his performances from the gig in Paris, and I was blown away. He seems like an entirely different person onstage. When his voice cracked in "The Good Rebel", he smiled it off. He played the acoustic in "Supersonic" with so much more energy if that makes sense. Then, I watched his performance of "Half the World Away" and that to me epitomizes how much he is thriving in his role as front man. I had the privilege of seeing him in Boston and can't wait until Atlanta. If anyone still has questions about his ability to front a group, watch that gig. Let's see how many times I am called a fanboy!

Yeah totally. I was both at the hmv appolo in october, then in Paris for that gig, and Noel was very different. Shy, a bit distant in London, chatty, funny and enjoying it in Paris.

I would definitely agree. He has grown leaps and bounds since the first live t.v. gig. He's still not an amazingly good frontman, he might not be a really good frontman, but he has at least gone from complete crap to at least a decent frontman. So there has definitely been a lot of growth. He has become much more comfortable in front of the crowd and it seems as if he is enjoying a lot more.
I can't wait till I see him in Chicago.

As people said at the time those early things were mimed, to playback in front of uncomprehending German housewives - a lot of them were in Europe - it's not surprising they were lacking energy.
Whenever he played live it was at the very least decent. The band now is great live. With repeated playing they've got tighter, but they were pretty good straight out of the traps, the 'raaain' harmonies on The Good Rebel justify their presence (and wages) alone. The bassist is a good backup singer, the guitarist has brought some nice touches (particularly his part on Half the world away) and the drummer is mostly unspectacular but fills in the spaces where its needed.
THe drummer probably already has his place booked but Noel should take 'em all into the studio when it's time to make NGHFB Vol III. ;-)
