That basic stomping plodding drum beat kills lots of the songs on the album for me. Sounds even worse live. I was just listening to Wonderwall, the way the drums enter in time with the vocal is amazing. Don't know why he's got so lazy/unsophisticated with the drums.

I'm quivering with excitement to think that one day I could hold the bootleg: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds ORIGINAL DRUM VERSION!

Most of its fine but the plodding drums is a major negative in some Noel songs and later Oasis. They should never have sacked Alan White. Other drummers would have killed Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger or Cast No Shadow for example, his jazz style gave a lot of rhythym and variety.

I'm quivering with excitement to think that one day I could hold the bootleg: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds ORIGINAL DRUM VERSION! wouldn't be a big difference. i'm not a fan of the drums either but i can't think of a real better way. the songs itself needed the kind of effort on the drums, the only way to do it better is to change the song structure

the only way to do it better is to change the song structure Probably true. Really hope we get to hear the version of Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks from It's Never Too Late To Be What You Might Have Been someday. Sounds way more interesting than the strait-laced album version (which I like btw).

For the benefit of Mr Kite... I was joking, Noel's drums don't really make me quiver and I agree with you entirely!

can you imagine how much worse they were before Sardy told him they needed to be redone ?

They kinda fit to the songs tbh. He needs those drums to compensate his singing. they add the strengh his voice doesnt have. It's the same live really. The drummer's really loud to make up for Liam not being here.

The drummer's really loud to make up for Liam not being here. on most songs yes, but EOTR and maybe Dream On, his voice does hold up quite nicely. It's on the ones where he has to make extensive use of his falsetto that the song suffers(TDOYAM, IIHAG, What A Crap)

This drummer is so bad, he killed IIAG live and Noel was doing fine vocals. Sack him Noel, I don't care he's Paul Stacy brother, just sack him quick !!!!

Drums sound great in the album and even better live. About time one can clearly hear all the instruments in a live gig. That drummer has blood in his veins.

The bass is really simple as well. Just root notes and I guess that one part of Broken Arrow after the second chorus is a little different, but for such a bass-heavy mix there's not a whole lot going on.

Yeah Noel doesn't seem to give much thought into interesting basslines. It's a pity too because there's not much better than a great bassline.

I don't think it matters so much on the album. If I Had A Gun could have bongos and Bonehead shouting she "said her name was dot" at the end and you still wouldnt be able to spoil the great melody.
But live. Oh dear. It really does emphasize how simple the drums are when they are even louder than the vocals. It completely ruins most of his new album live.
