I can't believe that I didn't see it before but the opening rift or cigarettes and Alcohol is exactly the same as that of The Hollies' opening rift in Long Cool Woman. Anyone else see this?

Oasis lifted a RIFF from another song? OH. MY GOD. Next you'll be telling me that "Shakermaker" took the melody line from "I'd Like to Teach the World To Sing" and that "Lyla" and "The Hindu Times" sound a bit like "Street Fighting Man" by the Rolling Stones.
Just kidding. Actually, this is done all the time by all kinds of bands - try playing the Strokes "Last Nite" right next to Tom Petty's "American Girl", or Greenday's "Warning" right next to the Kinks "Picture Book," just to name two recent, totally random examples. Actually, while you're at it, play T. Rex's "Get It On" (the inspiration behind "C&A" and "LCW") next to any Chuck Berry record. The T Rex tune is essentially slowed down Chuck Berry.
But I'm sure you know aall this.

On imdb.com under Noel Gallagher they say "his" riff from Cigarettes and Alcohol was listed as the 99th best riff of all time in some guitar magazine...so it's different enough to get him in a magazine!

God Thinks I'm Abel is Love To You, either that or another George song, I think. Haven't quite pinned it down yet. Half the fun of an Oasis album is the I-Spy 40 Years of Pop and Rock Records game. Has anyone mentioned the Stranglers' Golden Brown yet on DBTT? Thats rather an obvious one, Noel!
