Alright then lads.
Love them? Hate them? Overrated? Favourite tunes/albums?
General thoughts... What Oasis tunes remind you of Beatles songs etc?

Amazing band. I used to think they were overrated and thought that when you scratched the surface they wouldn't be up to much. haha so much for that as soon as I dug a bit deeper I realised just how great they are.
Got the abbey road medley on at the moment actually. Its bloodly brilliant.

I listened to Strawberry Fields Forever when I was drunk the other day on good headphones, and it blew my mind. This may be my favourite... Took me over 2 decades to work that out. I find it interesting to talk to people who had to 'get into' The Beatles because I have listened to them since I can remember (thanks to my parents). It must be amazing to listen through the albums discovering new songs.

They rip-off Oasis a lot, don't they? Well said. I've always enjoyed me some Beatles. I tend to get into the non-hits more though. The shear brilliance and simplicity of the early tunes is unmatched by anyone then or now. No Reply Not A Second Time You Can't Do That What You're Doing Baby It's You I Need You I love each and everyone more with each listen. Their over-marketed, but not over-rated. The tunes are there, but they have been kind of whored around over the years.

I do get sick of constantly hearing shit from "1" on the radio and I know a lot of other that do too...but the definitely deserve their position in musical history and the deeper cuts are as interesting a listen as the obvious ones

They're probably the greatest band I never listen to.

Decided to explore them because of Liam and Noel's hero worship, and I am the Walrus, back in the mid-90s. Wish I could do it again. Greatest band ever.

The variety is what gets me with the Beatles. You've got rock and roll rave ups, sweet ballads, dance hall tunes, blues, singalong anthems, avant garde rock, psychedelic rock, motown pastiches, pastoral folk tunes and several other genres they invented themselves. Even though there are some shit songs on it, The White Album truly showcases their musical versatility. Blackbird and Helter Skelter on one album... Amazing.

Rubber Soul and Revolver for me but Strawberry Fields Forever is my favourite tune, by any band

I absolutely love the Beatles. They perfected the art of writing two and a half minute pop gems. You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, I'm Looking Through You, I've Just Seen A Face--just brilliant.

I grew up on beatles tunes but when you reach a certain age in which you are more musically aware you end up discovering them again and when I did it blew my mind. It still does. It was like you turned on the CD and not only was every song superb but they invented so much stuff. They have such an influence on modern pop music that its incredible. Although Oasis is my favorite band, The Beatles are the greatest band of all time if you had to pick one.

They were my first love, mean more to me then anything apart from my family. I just wish Paul woulkd play either in nz or Australia. The best albums for me would be:
Abbey Rd/White album Revolver Rubber soul A Hard Days Night/Pepper.

There's a million things I could say about The Beatles, but the best thing about them is for all the things they invented and revolutionized, they never lost sight of the most important thing: writing great songs with amazing melodies.

I used to always think that they were overrated in the modern generation, that their music hadn't aged well enough to really get into them.
(My taste is pretty limited, Oasis is more of an anomaly than a regular band I like, although they are my faves)
There are definitely a few hints which tell me that its possible - the opening of Daytripper blew my weedy mind - both meanings taken, and I love the last few minutes of Hey Jude.
So, I personally can't say I like them, but my musical "opening" has been pretty recent, might come back to them in a few years and change my mind

The crucial thing here is: they are the only band that have songs for children, teenagers, young adult, middle age and old age - something for everyone to love and that is true art. In that aspect, they are unique but that doesn't even scratch the surface.
Pushing all boundaries without being self indulgent the big reason they are seen as the greatest.... again, I haven't even scratched the surface.
The best there is and the best there ever will be.

Listen to the 2000 version of 1 and than the remastered counterpart and you'll realize a lot of people have (and will be) listening to lesser versions of incredible tunes. It's a damn shame.

The Love album, despite drawing elitist critism, was quite possibly the best produced album I've ever heard. It introduced me to The Beatles (though, I'm well aware the orginals were quite different) and remains the paramount collection for me to indulge in when I have a Fab Four craving.

The sounds on Love are out of this world. It's a different effect to the remastering, because even though the remasters sound brilliant, some of the mixing problems are still there, for example Eleanor Rigby sounds shit in Stereo, on headphones, because of the way they used the channels at that point. There's a version on the 99 release of the Yelow Submarine songtrack which is remixed and is much better.

i love nearly everything they've done. they were only there for like 7 or 8 years and produced at least one classic album a year. mccartney/lennon/harrison are geniuses. nobody will ever beat them. the whole pop/media business is a reference to the beatles. maybe not everyone loves the beatles like i do, but at least 95% off the people like anything from beatles inspired musicians
they were the greatest and they still are !
