I mentioned this in the thread discussing the new LC album, but I don't think that will will gather traction there. I also think Alex Turner will win because AMs are much more well known than LC, but I think that proves my point: While good, I find Alex Turner vastly over rated there by rendering the likes of Gareth over looked and thusly under rated. Los Campesinos have been just as consistently good as the Arctic Monkeys, if not more so. Gareth's lyrics are much deeper, I feel. Much more unique. There's more to it. You have to figure out what the fuck he's on about, whereas with Alex it's quite clear cut. Also, Gareth has some odd way of making almost every song catchy. I literally have no idea how he continues to do it. I may be biased because LC is my favorite band of recent times, but Gareth takes this poll for me. Also, Gareth never wrote a song as bad as Dangerous Animal (sorry, but it had to be said. What a diabolic song ).

No offense, but it seems like you discover something, get obsessed with it, and then re-evaluate months later when the excitement's worn off a bit. I think this poll is an example of that.
Alex Turner is better in every regard. He can be very specific, as you say, but he can also be quite obtuse. And yet when he is very opaque, his unparalleled way with words makes the listener not even care that the song's meaning is impossible to figure out.
If you can come up with a Los Campesinos line even close to this then I'll reconsider:
"Topless models doing semaphore wave their flags as she walks by and get ignored"

I've known Los Campesinos for years, and I've known AMs since before their first album, so I don't think that's the case here.
I don't want to elevate Gareth too highly, but he's more akin to Morrissey. The music, of course, is very different from The Smiths, and the songwriting, too, but widen his topics he has the ability of Moz. He writes very witty, deep, and self deprecating lyrics.
Frankly, I like LC more than the AMs. LC have much more about them.
They are much more interesting. Both good bands, but I'd choose LC and Gareth over AMs and Alex any day.
Concerning 2011, Hello Sadness is miles ahead of Suck It And See.
And I still, to this day, have no idea how Gareth makes every song addictively catchy. Almost every line. It defies logic.

Okay, so it's not the case here.
I think comparing this guy to Alex Turner and (!!!) Morrissey (even on a surface level) is a little ludicrous. But that being said, I'm all for people having their opinions on music, as I feel too often we're told what to believe and what to think (about music) by certain media outlets. And that annoys me a bit, so good on you for standing up for your boy.
