He is? Never heard that one. But I know some top celebs who do. liverpoolfc.tv Football legend Diego Maradona was so enthralled with the passion of the Liverpool fans and the incredible comeback in Istanbul that he has now become an adopted scouser and is a Liverpool fan. Maradona, one of the greatest players the world has ever seen, says Liverpool were a credit to football and gave a perfect example of what the game is all about. Maradona was in Istanbul working for Argentine TV and said: "The English club proved that miracles really do exist. I've now made Liverpool my English team. They showed that football is the most beautiful sport of all. "You knew they could defend but the team showed they could play too and wrote a page in the history books. The match will last forever. "The Liverpool supporters didn't let me go to sleep the night before, there were 10 of them to every three Milan supporters. They showed their unconditional support at half-time when they were losing 3-0 and still they didn't stop singing." After the Final I think that we all are Liverpool fans

The best thing mate is that god supperts Liverpool. And that shits on anyone else. PS Pele is better than Maradona.

Why would I be joking? Pele is only put on a pedestol because he came before people like Maradona and Van Basten, when they are in fact just as good or better. Even though the best players are Maldini and Baresi!!

No mate pele is the greatest because in a time when footy wasn't developed he had skill 20 years ahead of his time. That's what makes Bobby Moore and Eusebio and Puskas and Cryuff stand out. Imagine what they could do with up to date technology and the finest nike football boots like stars today. He scored a thousand in a pair or rubbish.

When he talks about scoring a thousand goals he's including fucking goals he scored with a can on a beach in brazil when he was 10! His "1000+ goals" they bang on about aren't all at professional level. Anyway I wasn't denying that Pele et al weren't amazing players and ahead of their time. But Maradona and others took it to a new level. Anyway its all a matter of opinion, you can never conclusively say who is the worlds best player. For me its Maradona (as an attacking player anyway, my favourite players are generally defenders).

I never said they wouldn't.

But just for the record people never seem to mention defenders when talking about best players. Even though stopping the most skillful attackers is just as much an art form as scoring the goals.

Pele never took drugs.

Yeah well cocaine is hardly a performance enhancing drug is it. Look at Maradona now!
As for who was better, Maradona was also playing against much better defenders week in week out in the late 80s Serie A than Pele ever faced. And he dragged Napoli, a constant mid-table team to win the league, not to mention that the 86 Argentina team wasn't too good apart from him.

You should look on the other side of that. Despite being a coke addict he was still one of the best players ever! Now that is a feat.

I don't even know why I'm having this debate anyway. Like I said earlier most of my favourite players are defenders.

Nobody's ever reached his numbers since now and even back that time there were not so many matches like we have nowadays. He used to score 2 - 3 goals EVERY match and I'm not gonna get into how reliable our national tounament is coz we're the #1 nation on football, but I bet you've never heard of it, coz you're too busy watching french and scotish matches on ESPN. As for leading a team to championships like Maradona did, let's have a little talk. Before he came up in 55/56, Brazil had never won a single World Cup and on his first cup in 58 when he was only 17, he came as winner and scored only 2 in the final game. After, came 62 and same as before. Then it was 66 and Portugal got him injuried and they didn't even pass from the qualifiers. Then came 70 and I'm sure you know how it ended coz you're a big Italy fan. Not mentioning the Libertadores Cups of 62 and 63 in wich they became World Club Champions. And now, that's something Maradona would wish to have. I'm not even gonna metion Baresi and Maldini. Best players ever? Don't think so

Maybe because Brazil will never have defenders that good?

"I'm not even gonna metion Baresi and Maldini. Best players ever? Don't think so" Maybe because Brazil will never have defenders that good? Sorry.. we don't need it. We can still win 1994 World Cup and 1993 Toyota Cup without and against any of those.

Actually Aldair was great. Apart from him Brazil haven't had a decent defender in the last 15 years!

Actually in World Cup 94 the final was 0-0 and went to Penalties. So Maldini and co did stop the best Brazilian attackers of 1994! Its a shame Baggio was Italy's only good attacking player then!
