It was originally written by Leadbelly It was written way before that I think. Its a traditional folk song that has its roots far earlier from what i've read. Thats why its uncredited to anyone in the albums of people who have covered it.

i can't point out a big similarity The only thing is its a similar chord progression, but im not sure if its the same key. the melody is different though
