I had a dream last night that The Black Keys played a gig in Grinnell, Iowa and it was awesome.
Too bad that'll never happen.

best thing about the black keys is that they're so prolific.

I still wonder what if Jack and Meg released an new album They'd be in a completely different trajectory. I'd see The White Stripes going more into their weird blend of art rock and the blues like they did in Get Behind Me Satan and Icky Thump. Black Keys deal more in standard, albeit quality, rock. I didn't like Brothers that much, and last time I saw them they seemed a bit tired, but the new tune sounds excellent.

It's still quality, but I thought Attack and Release was a perfect blend of new instrumentations and their old sounds. And I'm all for quality bands becoming popular, but their crowd was really weak when I saw them well into their Brothers tour (in comparison to a year earlier when I saw them 3 months after release). It was a huge crowd, one of the biggest of the weekend, but pretty tame. Same goes for Arcade Fire at the same festival which was very sad to see.

i know what you mean. but thats part of the game, isn't it. festivals are great but it's not the right place to see your favourite band perform because most people dont get it anyway

Well, I've only seen them twice, both times at festivals. The crowd went mental for them at Lollapalooza 2010, I Got Mine had a tremendous reception as the last tune, and they were only the pre-headliner. Fast forward a year earlier at Bonnaroo, there's an even bigger crowd. People waited for hours to get into the pit and they don't even know half of the tunes! That's what confuses me the most. I want to say it has to do with seeing them at a festival, but they got so much love the first time.

I was in the second row when I saw them at Bonnaroo this year and I'd have to agree with that although this was my first time seeing them. Crowd was a little weak and to be honest the black keys didn't really blow me away but they still put on a solid show. This new tune sounds great hopefully the album will be just as great.

its pretty solid on first listen especially since its only been a year and half since Brothers. It's pretty poppy nothing wrong with that though.

I've only listened to it one time from start to finish but it sounds very very good. Love those dirty guitar sounds. Danger Mouse is an outstanding producer. Love most of the work he has done with various artists (Gorillaz, Beck, Broken Bells, The Good The Bad The Queen, Black Keys). Perhaps Beady Eye should consider him to produce their next album. I know they were listening to Brothers a lot during the recording of DGSS.

Loads better than Brothers, it's up there with Rubber Factory and Attack and Release as their best!

I've only listened once, but I already think I'll end up liking it more than Brothers. I seriously think they've gotten better with every album. I like when bands gradually evolve over time.

God, I love listening to this album. It's just filthy fucking fun. Like if Marc Bolan was in a porn about a bluesman.

I dunno but I'm not too keen on The Black Keys. Nothing against them, I've just not got anything particularly going for them. Perhaps they'll grow on me.

God, I love listening to this album. It's just filthy fucking fun. Like if Marc Bolan was in a porn about a bluesman. Is Marc Bolan fucking the bluesman, or is he just a bluesman? And if he is only a bluesman, is the bluesman a participant in said sexual deviancy (read: being fucked, morelikes) or is he just a voyeur, like, or just a mantlepiece in the room where the sexual activity is taken place or just an intermediary to the audience, sortof like Fred Astaire claymation figure in that Rankin Bass Christmas thingy that always show in television in this time of year? I don't really know what you're gettin' at, like.
