I read a biography of Oasis many many years ago in which several songs are mentioned throughout the book that have never seen the light of day as far as I can tell.
One that I specifically recall was called "Daytura Dream Deferred." I think there was another called "The Red, White, and Blue"
Does anyone have any idea about these songs ever existing or am i just imagining things?

This was definitely an idea for a song that Noel nicked from, I believe, Johnny Marr. I'll have to go look up what book it was, as it has been forever since I've read it and it is likely in my parents' basement somewhere.

it's actually daytona daydream deferred. i don't know about the definitely maybe title business henrod brought up, but i do know it was talked about a whole lot during the be here now recording... or mostly when they (at least noel) were in mustique (doing lots and lots of cocaine) with johnny depp and mick jagger and noel was doing be here now demos

it's actually daytona daydream deferred. Not according to the biography mentioned above it ain't. The book is called 'Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis' and is by Paulo Hewitt. The song mentioned in that is indeed called Daytura Dream Defferred and comes from a conversation Noel had with Johnny Marr, where Marr says he has given up smoking weed and is getting his dreams back, because being on drugs was stopping his dreams. He tells Noel it's a condition called "Daytura dream defferred, or something" and Noel says "that's top, do you mind if I use that for a song title?" The Red, White & Blue is a reeeeeaaaally early Oasis tune that as far as I am aware was never even recorded as a demo, and was I believe about the sort of nationalist mentality of some people in England. There was another one called Badge which Noel says was about how if you dress a certain way you automatically get labelled by people. It's a good book, Getting High, would recommend it.

righto then... it's just strange, because what hewitt is relaying is not what noel was saying in interviews in '97. which of course is fine and dandy. but its why there are old websites like this one members.tripod.com/~digsy/album.html showing the title as "daytona"... but feel free to say "haha, look at the crazy guy making stuff up without anything substantive to back his claim"... i just remember it rather vividly cos i was rooting for them to title the LP #3 that. of course, it all probably stemmed from the NME not knowing what theyre talking about ever, as most misinformation does...

It could be either really mate, I am just quoting out of the book, whihc I assumed was more official as it was sanctioned by Oasis/Creation etc before it was published. Plus I think it's a reference to the actual condition - like Daytura - or Datura, not sure - is a type of weed, so smoking weed means you lose your dreams, so is daytura dream deferred? Whereas as Daytona is a motor racing track isn't it, so I don't know how that would fit into the tune - maybe Noel took Johnny's original wording and made it into a song about dreaming of being in a fast car.

yeah i probably liked "daytona daydream..." so much because it made me think of oasis' record when i hear a bunch of fat people sitting around talking about NASCAR... which is way better than just thinking about a bunch of fat people sitting around talking about nascar
here's this: DATURA: n.
Any of several plants of the genus Datura, having trumpet-shaped flowers up to 25 centimeters (10 inches) long and usually prickly fruits. The leaves and seeds yield alkaloids with narcotic properties. Also called thorn apple.
[New Latin Datura, genus name, from Hindi dhatr, from Sanskrit dhattr, thorn apple.]
and (especially) this:
Main Entry: da·tu·ra Pronunciation: d&-'t(y)ur-& Function: noun 1 capitalized : a genus of widely distributed strong-scented herbs, shrubs, or trees of the family Solanaceae including some used as sources of medicinal alkaloids (as stramonium from jimsonweed) or in folk rites or illicitly for their poisonous, narcotic, or hallucinogenic properties 2 : any plant or flower of the genus Datura
