Perhaps an odd comparison, but I was thinking about this. I was wondering if I'm alone in thinking which of these two I like more. Personally, leaning towards DGSS but HC has something (Noel and his involvement) DGSS does not.
I'm curious as to others' thoughts...maybe HC will get some more lovin', we'll see.

HC has some of the best singles of the post-1997 era: THT, SCYHO, SB, LBL are all great.
Aside from FLW and FA, DGSS is pretty well bland to me.
HC all the way. Because it meant more to me then, and now.

HC is always hard to judge comparatively because it has great singles, yet is such a shit album.
DGSS is a more solid album, but lacks the quality songs HC sparingly has.
I'm going with HC because it has iconic songs that have stood the test of time (almost 10 years and counting). I have a very hard time believing many of us will care for The Roller in 2021, especially since I can't see Beady Eye around then to add to the relevancy.

This is a really interesting one for me.
Heathen Chemistry was probably the absolute peak of my seventeen year obsession. I listened to that album day and night for months and months, well into 03 and spent a shitload on bootlegs from all eras because I couldn't stop listening to them. I don't know if part of that was because it was the first time Oasis had released an album when I'd had money of my own or what, but I couldn't get enough. I loved it.
Nowadays, the way I feel about HC isn't as strongly as I did then and I don't often listen to the whole album. Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Songbird remain near the top of my favourite Oasis songs, and there isn't a song on there I dislike, but it ranks below the two albums that followed it and above the two that preceded it, for me.
That being said, this forum makes me very sad at times when I see it constantly slated. I get a surge of defensive pride because it's an album that will always mean so much to me just because it did when it came out. When I read NL4E calling it a shit album, I frowned but I know he is not alone in this view.
So then, DGSS. Well I didn't quite know what to expect from it and when I sat and listened to it I was like...whoa this is fucking great! I've played it over and over...my daughters, two of whom are four and one is eight, all know nearly every line of it. And, much like HC, it made me want to listen to everything Oasis did over and over again. So instead of listening to them more than any other act, I've listened to them almost non-stop all year long, joined this forum, downloaded bootlegs I didn't already have. I don't know why DBTT and DOYS didn't get me in the same way in all honesty as they are better albums, but sometimes "it's all in a moment."
Will I still feel like his about DGSS down the line? Who knows. I prefer the Noel album musically but there is something about the Beady Eye album that makes me feel a bit more affectionate towards it. Could be Liam's singing, could be because it inspires me to listen to Oasis more than Noel's does, I don't know.
But to pick between HC and DGSS, I'd probably have to come back in ten years.

DGSS by a long way. HC is largely uninspired turd and even the singles don't save it for me. THT is a luke warm rocker and LBL is one of Noel's worst in my opinion.

Both are as unlistenable as each other at times. I love Songbird, it's my favourite post-2000 Oasis song, but some parts of the album are frighteningly bad, even worse than DGSS.
Even though the songwriting on Noel's singles have stronger melodies and are arguably more sophisticated than anything on DGSS, they are without inspiration and cliche. DGSS, whilst with no strong melodies to compare, bristles with an energy and even a variety that far outstrips HC. DGSS it is.

HC suffered from the fact that they were trying to put as many rockers as possible on it and left the better, but slower songs for b-sides (Shout It Out Loud, Idler's Dream, Just Getting Older, Heart Of A Star). Songs like Better Man (one of my least favorite Oasis tunes), Hung In A Bad Place, Probably All In The Mind , A Quick Peep and She Is Love don't deserve a place on an Oasis album. DGSS has some weakers songs as well (SOTEOTN, B&S), but they have a energy and strength that HC just lacks. DGSS is produced a lot better as well. SCYHO and LBL are better than anything on DGSS, but as an album, it's DGSS for me. If you count all the songs from both eras, HC would win though...

Totally agree, I prefer DGSS but it doesn't have those fleeting moments of magic like HC. Though I think The Morning Son is the only real magic moment on that album for me.

I love Heathen Chemistry. I do not like She is Love, but other than that I think its solid. Heathen Chemistry for me.

Heathen Chemistry if it's only for The Hindu Times. This song always cheers me up and a great opening tune for the album as well.

Heathen Chemistry. Tunes off of that one were great live as well.
