This may have been talked about before but its the main reason i wanted to get on these boards...
Demo version of Record Machine vs Album version.
I LOVE both, but it was my only quasi dissapointed moment of the album (if u can call it a dissapointment). Still an amzing song, but it seems like it was changed to fit the tone of the album rather than what would be best for the song.

I agree. As a whole, I actually much prefer the demo, but it was meant for DBTT and would have been fine on there (though I dont know how it woudl have fit on the tracklisting). The final version fits on the HFB album but it would also fit quite well on DOYS. I think put this on in place of TNOR (which I like, but i admit seems a little awkward on the album), and i think it makes a good penultimate track.

On first listen l preferred the demo version, but i realise now that it was because i hammered it for years in the car, i now totally prefer the album version, there is something angelic and magical about it, it raises your spirits.
The way i see it is we have got 2 amazing versions of 1 amazing song, im happy about that

Only thing i like better in the demo is the bass. And the guitar solo get's a little lost in the mix on the album version.

I love the polished version of RM, the choir and strings just take it to the next level. That being said, it has lost a bit of punch - especially regarding the solo - from the demo.

My only gripe was the loss of the bassline;( Loved the bass on the demo;( But the song is epic anyway;)

I prefer the demo version which is more somber, darker and moodier, than the polished album version, but the album version would suit more DBTT.

Album version is far superior to my ears. Everything's much more 'alive,' if you know what I mean. Great song. I think you guys listened to the demo a bit too much.

Only thing that's missing is the bass, like said before... It's awesome, nonetheless.

don't like the choir and the solo could have been legendary. prefer the oasis version (doesn't sound like a demo, just not quite a final polished mix. the anthology 'mastered' version will be mega)

It sounds a bit too overblown on the album, Noel chucked the kitchen sink at it.

Shame that I have to turn up the volume when the solo kicks in

I wasn't too keen on the demo so I much prefer the album version. I still don't think its as brilliant as others do, and I'm not keen on the choir, but it's a decent song nevertheless.

reading the responses in this thread, i wonder if some people's opinion of the album version would be any different had we never heard the demo version. (the same with stop the clocks)
