So the two tracks on Beady Eyes and the High Flying Birds albums that signaled the most noticeable departure from oasis's sound, the two tracks that the brothers could point out and say 'Hey look this is different, this isnt oasis sounding at all are What a Life and Bring the light. Yea? In the press before each album and the way both tracks have been reported and received by the public this is pretty much the case right?
Both ideas for sticking some piano sound that they heard on another record ('Strings of life' and Jerry Lee Lewis) came to both brothers in a flash of genius they both more or less claimed in interviews
Thats a bit mad isnt it? The extent of their willingness to transform their sound a bit following the release of being in oasis extends to nicking a piano bit off a track they heard and claiming it as a EUREKA! moment and a "Look this isnt fucking oasis at all!!!"
Thats basically it, Liam and Noel went for the exact same strategy. Marvellous
I fucking love both tracks by the way and both albums. Am just saying like.....

I thought Noel added the piano riff AFTER he wrote the track?
Just sayin....

And... Therefore the songs would've been different despite nicking the piano parts?

Yea they would have been different had our two heroes not had the exact same fucking idea of nicking a piano part they heard on a different tune to add to them
They both bascially had the same revolutionary idea which transformed an otherwise mundane song into the thermo nuclear raucous hits they are.
Those tracks represented the difference between oasis and their new ventures. That is literally the extent of their willingness to progress and isnt it mad that the focus on the 2 albums of how they ere now cutting a dash post-oasis revolves around 2 songs that have a piano part nicked from somewhere else, that was an epiphany they both had.....

i don't particularly like either of them. I've gone from really hating both to "not minding" them. BTL has a short bit that i've actually grown to dig(i blame my sister, who actually likes the track) Maybe the same thing will happen with AKA WAL.

Love 'em both, especially the live version of BTL which is a set high light, but also love the dancing birds in the video..........BABY COME ON!

Bring the Light was the biggest grower, I used to completely hate it. Now it's one of the standouts of the album, with The Roller and Wigwam (for me at least)
What a Life still has potential for growing I guess, but even in the context of the album, it is the song I'm most likely to skip.
(Part of that is because I fucking love SBAJF though)

I really enjoy both but didn't really see the fuss about the big departure they are? For me both could have been Oasis songs.

Both songs are so much better live. What a life acoustic version thats on youtube from when Noel hosted radio 2 was it? Is beautiful. Bring the light live is one of my favourites from BDI. Just blast that from your computer before a night out, bliss!

I live WAL. Not a fan of BTL though. Always found it really camp and cheesy.

Ironically (or maybe not), What A Life is a very good song that is let down by the lack of a killer verse or chorus, where as Bring The Light is quite poor but saved by the simplistic singalong lyrics.
You could probably apply that to both Noel and Beady Eye as well. Noel has written a very good album but lacks an anthem or two and the Liam snarl on a couple of songs to elevate it to the next level, and Beady Eye have quite a basic album that is catchy and easy to singalong to.

What a Life is a full-on, hard-rockin' stomper, that takes no prisoners in term of that sterling intro; but there's a sorely lacking guitar break-out/solo where it counts..... I keep waiting for the geetar solo that never arrives: other than that, it's fine by me.
