Yes I have bought albums based on reviews, and probably been to a fair few gigs as well based on them. For example, I bought the last two Bright Eyes' CDs without hearing any oof his music, a damn good purchase. It depends if you trust a particular reviewer or not.
They can certainly aid sales when combined with songs. If people listen to say, 'Lyla' and think "I like this but I'm, not sure if I should buy the album" a good review can help make that decision. Reviews are normally out there for the floating voters who are in two minds about buying a record.
Not to mention the positive reviews about DBTT remove any doubts about Oasis making Heathen Chemistry part 2.

Sometimes I read reviews of obscure indie releases that I'm hardly able to find to buy, much less hear. So a reviewer can convince me if it's worth hunting down or not.
But mostly, no. I know what I like.

I know what I like but it means I have to buy the album first (or break the law). There have been cases where I wished I hadn't listened to positive reviews (which accompanies good singles or videos or whatevever), such as Muse's Absolution (which is just too pretentious for words) and Feeder's Comfort in Sound (which is too mediocre for words).
