The acoustic versions pf If i had a gun hes done so far havent done anything for me at all and its me favourite track on the album. Maybe its the quality of the sound check version that makes it hard to stand up to the ones hes done now, i dunno. Dont think hes sang a decent one yet, the one he did on Radio 2 yesterday wasnt great at all. Hasnt really sang it well yet i dont think. Hope he gives it full band treatment in Dublin next week, be a great final song to finish the set i think.
And secondly.....
If this was an oasis album and If i had a gun was the first tsingle off it i reckon it would be a fucking monster hit. Radio one would play it and it owuld be massive. As it is when it does come out as a single i dont think it will get enough attention it deserves, hope am wrong though and it becomes his one of those sing-a-longs like back in the 90's though those days are probably long gone

I just don't see how Liam's presence would make a huge difference on this track. Liam just doesn't sing the slow ones all that well any more. He didn't do justice to LTBL or SCYHO. On the DOYS tour his versions of IOT and LF and other slowish ones was dreadful.
Liam still kicks ass on the hard ones--TSOTL, BIU, Lyla, etc. I think Liam could elevate a track like one of those beyond what Noel could do. But unless you could bring back Morning Glory Liam to sing, IIHAG would not be improved by his presence....
And btw, the days of Oasis, Noel, Beady Eye or any permutation of those three dominating the singles charts is OVER.

Am not talking about Liam singing it at all. No reason why Noel couldnt have the lead off single from an album. Little by little was meant to be first single from Heathen Chemistry. Liam couldnt sing If i had a gun, its all about those Aaaaah Aaaaahs

i agree with you about acoustic performances - the way he sung it in the coundcheck was amazing and this new version doesn't quite live up to it - almost as though he's trying too hard

I'd have to disagree here If I Had A Gun acoustic for that italian radio station is really good in my opinion.

He can still sing them. Just not appreciably better than Noel anymore. Didn't used to be that way. On Morning Glory and BHN, Liam's singing was fantastic on the slow ones (WW, CNS, CS, SBM, DGA--all brilliant performances).
I can't stand IOT as it was recorded, so I have a hard time judging his performance.
To me, his singing on LTBL is subpar. He doesn't rein it in a bit like he does so effectively on CNS, WW or DGA and it almost ruins the tune for me. To be fair, the lyrics he's singing are hardly brilliant.

he's trying too hard to sing "right" and play the guitar "right."
which is also where the album struggles...cuz he (or sardy) tried to do it "the right way" instead of just doing was feels good.

Unfortunately Noel said the Liam sung versions sounded like crap and Liam defaulted back to Noel saying he did the song more justice. |

I agree with you about the acoustic version not being anything special. I keep expecting more. Not sure about the thing about oasis... not that many people apart from old fans cared that much about oasis releases anymore...

I definitely agree with the IIHAG acoustic bit. Maybe it's my own personal expectations that are bogging it down, but it seems like Noel can't recreate that acoustic magic of that soundcheck version. I think the main problem is the radio performances. Once Noel gets out of the radio and into a theatre, I think his voice will resonate much more powerfully and this song will fascinate us all again. In the radio, his vocals sound trapped.

No idea why he had been doing that during that in the acoustic version. It's s tiny thing but it annoys me and since everyone else is being nitpicky.
I love album version and other than the aforementioned phrasing I'm liking the acoustic versions as well.
