Make no mistake, its a fantastic album.
It's just that, I expected a lot more. I know you guys are going to go 'Oh well fans are never satisfied', but no, I am a pretty realistic fan, and I know what to expect, but it just falls short of what it was hyped up to be. As did the early few reviews.
Anybody else underwhelmed here ?

Completely the opposite. Absolutely living up to my expectations and then some. No fillers on there at all.

I love the strings, but dislike the choir in places. "Record Machine" is a big let down - that guitar solo could have been legendary like a "Maybe I'm Amazed" or something, simple, short but classic - on the album it's mixed so low you can hardly hear it.

I really expected Dream on to be a classic going on the reviews, its a bit of a dirge. Stranded on the wrong beach is completely fucking average. Soldiers boys is decent and i like the chorus of broken arrow but neither of them 4 tracks are near as good as If i had a gun or Death of you and me. Everybodys on the run is great as expected but as some one else on here said some of the production on that and in my opinion Record machine is a bit too exhausting. bit too over the top and i fucking love the strings on the oasis records. I actually prefer the stop the clocks version on this album mind. What a life is inoffensive, run of the mill, pretty plain tune that could have been proper fucking serious had he chose to go all out on it instead of playing it safe and not having a fucking clue how to do a proper dance track.
So yea underwhelmed really

I'm not underwhelmed tbh, its more or less what i expected. And confirms my personal belief that Noel didn't hand over songwriting duties in Oasis's later years just because he felt he had to but because he doesn't have an endless supply of great tunes.

^ no he "handed over" the duties out of a compelling desire to "integrate" a couple of guys who were formerly writing a shit-load of music in their former outfits and keep a modicum of peace within the band.
as for the third guy, yes: it became completely obvious that noel had no chance of contributing 3 songs per lp that equaled the likes of: little james, born on a different cloud, better man, soldier on, and the classic: "ain't got nothin'.
laughin my balls off.
NGHFB speeds past HC, DOYS, and of course DGSS.
DBTT was largely excellent...of course in no small part due to Lyla, TIOBI, POTQ and LTBL- but also to the finest songs any of the aforementioned 3 have ever put to record.

Yep I think I belong in this thread. I do like all the songs seperately and I even think some songs are epic (EOTR, IIHAG), but the album as a whole isn't doing that much for me. It's a bit to long maybe. That's not the right way to describe it as it isn't even long, but you know what I mean
