Thought i would start a thread for the inevitable .....sounds like comparisons. post videos if you can find any soundalikes to the nghfb album.

My first comment would be the opposite: many reviewers said that Noel had used the TIOBI template thorough the album. Some even claimed it was a bit repetitive.
I understand the comparison between TIOBI and TDOYAM (I love both by the way) but they also explicitly mentioned SBJF, DO and SOTWB. Am I the only one that think these other songs are quite different from TIOBI?

quite different vibe, yeah. but the same drum kit through the whole album. could be annoying in a while unfortunately

I think Broken Arrow holds some similarities to Part of the Queue.

As most previewers said, Dream On's intro sounds a lot like The Kinks' Dead End Street. And capanb2000, I agree that the similarities with TIOBI aren't that big. It's only because it was a well-known Oasis single that they're comparing it to the HFB songs...and it's not really wrong either.

I think Broken arrow stars off like "Don't dream its over" (crowded house)
Really like it though

dream on sounds very very similar to the soundcheck version of the turning we heard on the last tour and with Noel saying he wrote it around that time wonder if he got his inspiration from that sort of riff !

^YES!!! Nobody else seems to have noticed that! Broken Arrow's intro also reminds me of The Smiths' How Soon Is Now, is that just me?

Dream On has some vibe from Mellow Yellow by Donovan and Sister Lover. Actually, the end of the song is quite similar to mellow yellow bcoz of the instrumentation, it is the same.

The syncopated keyboard riff in "What a Life" (starts at 0:15) reminds me of the Greg Kihn Band's keyboard riff in "Jeopardy" (starts at the very beginning of the song). But what are the chances that Noel has ever heard that song? Maybe Noel got the syncopation from Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone"?

Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks intro is the same to Happy together by the turtles. I´m tired of Noel ripping off intros, riffs and melodies.

I'm getting a bit of Rockin' Chair at the start of Dream On. Might be crazy, but I can't shake the idea.

Weird that I would probably rank My Sister Lover ahead of Dream On then...
(Dream On being my 2nd least favourite)

Don't take this wrong, I'm glad everyone is enjoying themselves, but . . .
I really hate the fucking comparison game. Every single song that has ever been written is going to sound similar to some other song from somewhere. There are only so many chords, and notes, and melodies available to choose from.
Cheers!
Blame lack of sleep!
