I was originally disappointed when the reviews said they were like the demo versions. While the demos are good, especially RM, I was hoping for improvements.
The preview clips released in the last couple days showed me the light, though. And now the final versions, too.
Noel has added great depth to both of them. STC sounds so much better. It's no longer a whiny, droning rendition.
And RM just sounds epic with that choir added to it. Can't wait to hear both in fantastic quality!
Still would have liked the epic 8min guitar laden version of RM, but I'm more than satisfied with what has been released.
I think the reviews undersold both RM and STC. While they have the same lyrics and basic structure, depth was added to make them both much more interesting and different than their demo counterparts.
Also, RM is up their with IIHAG and EOTR as my favorite on the album. Simply incredible.

I always thought the reviews described them rather well. Nothing had been really changed, however, they were a lot more than before. All Noel really did was just change both songs' keys and piled a LOT of things onto both.
Where does it say that Noel didn't play the guitar solo on STC? I'm willing to bet that's him.

All the songs have been vastly improved from the demos.
On a side note, what's up with your karma NL4E?

It's hard to describe what exactly is different about these tracks in a review, but they definitely sound much better. I thought I would be disappointed with another short version of RM, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Both of these songs are great surprises on the album for me with how they turned out.
I'm not sure which I'm liking more right now honestly. Before I would have said RM hands down, but I'm digging the new version of STC.

One thing i'm glad he changed on Stop the Clocks is where he repeats "Sound" over and over again. In the demo it got on my nerves a little bit.

Also, the STC lyrics are still there....Epic.

Gallagher told the magazine: "I know that this is the most concise, literal and lyrical album I've written for a long time, and that says more about me as a songwriter because it's all me, apart from the drums and some of the keyboards."

Bullshit, who played the fuckin violin concerto in that 100 piece orchestra then, love?

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. But apparently people have said he didn't play it. I'm confused. I do like the demo because the tuning it had gave it a certain sound...it sounded like such a whimsical epic pop song whereas now this lost alot of the "whimsicalness". it's a decent tradeoff since the track has more of the "epic"...but i dunno

For those curious, Noel plainly said it was a friend of his who played the guitar solo on Stop The Clocks. It's in the NME track by track video. Said he won't play it live because he can't play like the guy who did the solo, who played it "a bit like Jeff Beck".

It was probably the solo played by the guys from the Ryan Adams band.
What was his name?

He had said that he only had 2 solos on the album and only played one of them

Noel barely plays solos anymore and this was an excellent one.

I think RM is a little overproduced and those backing "aahhhhhhh" are totally unnecessary on it.

I was addicted to the demo version when it leaked, but now I'm addicted to this final one. I think the solo could have sounded a bit better, but apart from that it's an incredible song in every sense. Imagine this under the Oasis moniker. It would be beyond colossal.

I don't know what he played...it was some kind of guitar though. I couldn't swear this was him. Cast says it was Paul Stacey. I'd tend to trust him. I am only remembering a rumor from really early this year

I like the demo better, it is more real I guess, and STC suffers from these backing "ahhhhhhh" too, I think it was Sardys fault.

I have not read any of this thread but . . .
The last minute of STC is absolutely mental, as it should be. Brilliant!
Cheers!
