I'm a bit tired right now, so maybe I'm not making sense...
I like all the song's but come on...What's up with Noels voice, I thought I had traveled back to the 90's and was listening to a fuckin' Cher album. Not really a fan of the sound of this one, a bit to over polished and "pop" for me, but I'm sure i'll get used to it.
Discuss this while I get to sleep, or don't... I don't care... Do whatever you want!
G'night and god bless the jesus freaks!

It is very shiny. Perhaps overly so in places.

i agree very over produced, especially record machine. sounds like pop music in some places, and he has an obvious auto tuner on his voice. i prefer a more natural sound, you can't win em all though.

The melodies are there and they're fantastic... but the arrangements are fucking weird...

I like a lot of stuff that people consider overproduced.

I love that it's so polished. Sure it's had the kitchen sink thrown at it, but it's that classic Spectorish wall of sound. Unlike BHN which sounded like 3 Led Zeppelin albums playing at once through a walkman with the bass turned off.

You're spot on. The vocals are so THERE in the mix. Absolutely no dynamics at all. It does sound a bit over-done. Definitely more produced than anything Oasis ever did.

Yeah, don't think there's any auto-tune on there. Think he's just 'singing' a bit more.

I'm only up to WAL (fucking love the fact I still have new songs to come!), but the only song that suffers from the BHN effect is Dream On. Why the hell he decided to repeat the same phrase over and over again for the outro is beyond me. This isn't 1997's IGBM! (That being said, DO is good, but I was expecting better. Underwhelmed on that one)

That bit where he goes "wahhh waahhh" in "stop the clocks". that's some Kanye West bullshit that I don't condone in any limited fashion. Fuck this, fuck that song for including that bit.

Yeah, don't think there's any auto-tune on there. Think he's just 'singing' a bit more. I dunno... Noel's voice definitely sounds a lot more 'processed' on this than it ever has on any other album. Don't the vocals on these songs sound a bit different than any of Noel's other songs in the past?

They do sound processed, for sure. Especially when you compare them to Noel's acoustic stuff lately...I wonder how he'll sound on tour.

His voice does sound a bit different...but I'm not hearing the autotune. There are effects on them...but far less so that on the DGSS which I found annoying.
The thing that I noticed about his voice was actually that it sounds a bit different in texture. Not raspy...but a bit...i don't know rougher? Listen to verses of Broken Arrow...can you hear what I mean? EOTR too.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Hard to get used to Noel's voice being produced this way.

it IS a pop album. Nothing wrong with that. a good dose of auto-tune but again, it's a pop album. i like the strings and i love EOTR, i like a couple of other songs on there. I hate WAL and there's a few that are not my cup of tea. It's a folksy Pop album, not a rock album. We knew this is what we were getting the minute he mentioned wanting to do a solo project.

There's a massive deal of compression on his vocal track. That alone can change the way a vocal recording sounds. It changes the "texture" of the sound. It's like distorting a guitar I suppose. I don't think he would ever condone auto-tune on one of his songs.
Also remember what we're hearing is a low-quality rip of a very compressed/limited album. Albums are mixed differently these days. Every single sound is made to be as loud as possible and it just kills the sound completely.

As far as pitch correction, it's nothing new for Noel. I'm pretty sure it's on Waiting For The Rapture, for example. You can hear it when he slides down (i.e. waiting FORRR-rrrrr). I didn't work on the album, obviously, so I can't know for sure, but I know what pitch correction sounds like from occasionally using it on my own recordings. I'm fairly certain it's all over the High Flying Birds album.
That being said, the songs are all amazing and he gives great vocal performances. So I don't care that much.

The "So long but baby bye bye" line in (Stranded On) The Wrong Beach is probably the most obvious use of auto-tune. It's more for effect than pitch correction, but it still a bit odd sounding for Noel. The backing vocals of EOTR are probably the most "annoying" instance of auto-tune. It's borderline Nickelback-esque to be honest. Fortunately, the chorus saves it.

I'm finding some of the songs to be a little overproduced too.
