I was in HMV and was staggered to see this in CD format (thought it was only vinyl) - 8 remastered albums (done by Johnny Marr) for around £30 - that's under £4 for each album! Judging by the brilliant remastered best of collection released a few years back that sound fantastic (The Sound Of The Smiths), this is the absolute ultimate bargain. My birthday is coming up next month so I know what I'll be buying!
Anyone got it and any thoughts on it?

I haven't bought it yet, but gonna definitely buy it very soon. I just bought the remastered The Sound Of The Smiths (Japanese edition) a couple of months ago. I have a couple of versions of Hatfull of Hollow (my most favourite The Smiths album) - LP, CD (Original version) and CD (Japanese edition). My treasure is "Bigmouth Strikes Again" single (vinyl) with Johnny's autograph on it.

I remember a few years back trying so hard to get Hatful of Hollow and Louder Than Bombs, and I just couldn't find them in the shops. I never buy off the internet and I couldn't find any retailer selling them so I wasn't going to do that, and then my birthday came along and I received a birthday present from my sister. I opened it up and was absolutely delighted to see those albums sitting there. It's the joy of receiving such music that's great and it just got sweeter listening to those albums.

I don't have the box set (though I'd love to see a deal equivalent to that in America , but I have all of the remastered albums. As an absolute huge fan of The Smiths, I can say that the remasters are worth every penny. You can actually hear the rhythm section now! I normally don't hear the differences in too many remasters, just an increase in volume, but Marr did an amazing job. I can't stress enough how fantastic they are, my mind was blown! It was like listening to them for the first time all over again.

Marr is an absolute hero of mine as well, hearing all of the little touches and riffs he adds to the tunes are a delight on the remastered versions.

Johnny Marr is the greatest guitar player of all time - and his compositions are just genius. The only band to have two guys who inspire me and are heroes of mine is The Smiths.

May pick this up. I only have the 4 "studio" albums so this will be a good way of getting better versions plus the ones I don't have. Great band.

The old CD releases are similar to that of The Beatles old CD ones, it doesn't pick up the magic of the vinyl quality and seems in desperate need of remastering. These new remasters sound so fresh and vibrant - I think they've done a better job of remastering them than The Beatles ones a couple of years back.

I'm supposed to be writing an essay on the war on terror but sorry I just can't. I just received my Smiths Complete boxset and I'm completely immersed in it all - it sounds amazing, everything. The CD's come in replica vinyl sleeves of old, a bit like the Beatles remaster with all the real sleevenotes, lyrics, and photos - a perfect example of buying physical rather than passionless digital. And it comes with a bonus Rank poster also. This is undoubtedly my most precious collection out of all my records.
It's not pure gold as The Smiths are worth much more than that. Falling in love all over again!

I want to get this very badly, but I'll likely wait until Christmas to be sensible.

^ It was my birthday yesterday but before meeting up with all my mates for a night out, I just spent it alone listening to all the studio albums and Louder Than Bombs! Sounded so fresh, and a perfect way to spend my birthday actually.
