When was the last time Paul McCartney wrote a song that was part of the social fabric? ...And who gives a fuck? Seriously, McCartney wrote great pop songs, whether it's fuckin part of the "social fabric" or nowt, and he still does-- well, not great, but fuckin worthy of consumption

When was the last time Paul McCartney wrote a song that was part of the social fabric? But he has...in his solo career...and that's the point...will Noel ever achieve this again with his new set up (even if he writes for another 30 years?) "...in his solo career"....Yeah, in RETROspect. that's what your measly over-generalizing headfuck don't seem to get

And that's where I disagree with UGHF. Who cares, if IIPOTSF? Still, no reason to dismiss his original posting.

[Bugger] UGHF create another rubbish thread It's a valid question... Will Noel ever write a song that captures the imagination of the masses? His new album will be ace though!

It has nothing to do with the quality, and everything to do with being at the right place at the right moment in time.
Note how you say the new album will be ace. It's already gotten great reviews. But if it will be ignored by the masses, then it's because of society and/or promotion of the album and says nothing about Noel's song writing ability.

I don't think so, but I know that he's one of the greatest songwriters ever.

It does have something to do with quality i'm afraid....there's a difference between a brilliant mass appeal song and the good songs noel are churning out at the moment. All I'm saying is...a songwriter as good as Noel should be able to create songs that all and sundry love... case in point... My Mum sings along unknowingly to every song on WTS(MG) I'm waiting for the next Epic Noel tune...not epic as considered by Oasis fans...(IIHAG, Falling Down) but by the sheeple For instance, if Noel released Heart OF A Star at Xmas Time as a charity single...I fuckn guarantee it would give X Factor a run for it's money

Now before you have a pop...hear me out. Noel Gallagher is an outstanding songwriter...probably my favourite of all time, and I think this album will be brilliant.BUT...... ....what is one of the qualities that every good songwriter/song has? ....I'd like to say... ...the ability to craft proper songs that become part of the social fabric. Now Noel has done this with Wonderwall, DLBIA, Live Forever, Cigs and Alcohol. When was his last song of such a standard? Probably Stop Crying Your Heart Out me thinks... He has become more self indulgent i think... I'm just rambling here...but from the songs I've heard so far...(which are TOP) I'm still waiting for him to a do Paul McCartney and write seriously epic solo-career songs that the public love... Mull Of Kintyre Band On The Run...etc I think this is the challenge for Noel... Music has changed so much since mcCartney went sole, digital age and all that, x factor etc. Noel is one of the best british song-writers alive, and his solo single got to number 15, and Oli fucking murs was number 1. THAT SAYS IT ALL.

I really can't see why songs like IIHAG, STC or RM can't become a succes. Songs don't have to be catchy and radio friendly to become a succes.
Well now that I think of it, in these times they probably do, as the music scene is quite bad at the moment. Which is a shame. Music like this barrely gets noticed by the mass.

its a shame that songs like STC and RM wont get the recognition they deserve from the masses, but its kinda cool that they dont in a way. I like the idea of listening to music that is great but idiots dont get a chance to listen to it. if that makes any sense.
