Out of all the soundcheck songs we heard this to me sounded easily the best but for some reason it doesn't look like it's made the album. Do you think Noel will use it as a b-side? To me it's way to good of a song to just throw away. I love it.

Ooh - never heard this one - does anyone have a link?
Thanks in advance,
TWB.
EDIT: Ah, is this the one that's also known as "Bye bye, My Family"?

I've been thinking about the same thing. It was the song I wanted on the album the most. One reason it may not be on HFB is because some say it's a song "Don't Be Down". which is a song he wrote for his daughter and he said it would never be released. But that was years ago, so the chances that they are the same song might be slim.
I just hope it will at least be on the next one. I don't think it will be a b-side though. Too good...

It will be released at midnight under the name 'Alone on the Ropes'.

How would you sing the chorus if it actually was Don't Be Down? Some people have too much imagination when it comes to connecting titles and songs.

It will be released at midnight under the name 'Alone on the Ropes'. Not directed at you J.B. but this is something that always seems to annoy me. Why is it whenever a new song is announced, people always seem to think it's one that was leaked? If it annoys you, why did you just do it yourself??

Love this song. The selfish part of me wants him to release it. But Noel is unlike other musicians who would release a private song about a family member for profit. If he says it's just for him and his daughter, that's probably how it'll stay. As for playing it during soundcheck, he was probably missing her and singing that song makes him feel better maybe..

Do people really think he's only ever wrote one song about his daughter/children? As far as I'm concerned, there's not a shred of evidence to suggest this song is Don't Be Down or even a rewrite of it. I hope Jeffslate can clear up this with Noel in his interview.

If you can try make out the lyrics, it could be a reference to his daughter, as suggested. But if he never intended to play it live, why bother using it at a soundcheck? Er, because it's a soundcheck, and not a live performance in front of a paying or invited audience? Anyway, about Noel's "you'll never hear it" comment about Don't Be Down - that was a one-off comment made almost 10 years ago. It shouldn't be taken as gospel, and never to be changed. It's like Noel saying he doesn't play Champagne Supernova during acoustic sets because "it's not a song to be played on just an acoustic guitar", when in fact he most likely wrote it on acoustic guitar, and there's a very famous story of him making Bonehead cry when he first played it to the band on just an acoustic guitar!

Don't post on here very often, but I must say it's one of the most beautiful melodies he's ever come up with. I'd love to hear a finished version, but if it ain't to be then the soundcheck will do for me
