I turned the Basel match on at the start of the second half. Saw Utd were 2-0 up, and almost turned it off right away, thinking the game was over. Glad I didn't! What a second half that was!

What a second half that was! i think there will be more games like that until we get vidic back, i love the way we play but it can be defensively naive.

We have this big arguement, some guys and me on a football forum in spanish, over who are the second best team in the world right now. Most Madrid fans say it's "Madrid, no question". They base it on the facts that the betting houses place them second favourites to win the CL. And that Xavi said it's the best team they played. Most Barça fans say it's United, since they got to the CL final and won the league. And still play better looking football than Madrid, in the opinion of most people. What do you think?

This week United struggled to tie with Basel and Madrid won easily against Ajax, I rest my case.(But last year Manchester was way better than Real)

This week United struggled to tie with Basel and Madrid won easily against Ajax, I rest my case.(But last year Manchester was way better than Real) Err, you are going to base your "case" based one set of games? (also to be noted that Ajax aren't exactly world beaters right now either). If you are going to bring that into the equation, you should also consider that United have beaten Spurs 3-0, City 3-2, Arsenal 8-2 and Chelsea 3-1 already this season and are still unbeaten. At the same time, Madrid have lost to Levante and drawn with Santander. That being said, I would believe that United are a bit better than Madrid at the moment. In the last five years or so, United have been by far the more consistent side both domestically and in Europe. Madrid have gotten better under Mourinho and I fancy them to win the La Liga either this season or the next and perhaps even the Champions League. United have also improved this season and have acheived far from fluidity while attacking, a far cry from the sluggish attack of last season. The defensive problems for United this season will soon be sorted as the new players in defence are still getting used to playing with each other. I suppose Bayern could be brought into the equation. Their record this season has been stunning, something like 28 goals scored and just 1 conceded. They are already red hot favourites for the Bundesliga title with their start to the season. They have been up and down in recent seasons, but they definitely do look strong this season and I'd reckon they could cause a few upsets in the Champions League come the QFs and SFs. All these teams need a lot of work to topple Barca though which may take at least another 2-3 years.

I was talking about their recent matches and I think that ajax was more a contender than Basel(yeah you could say that they both shouldnt go to the next round and you probably will be right). Madrid and United have players that could improve their performances but they are injured right now. And its so early in the season that it shouldnt matter. Bayer lost against B. Monchengladbach(my god what a name) and they havent played against anyone else that is going to be contender for the title(Leverkusen like every year is just looking for european championships). Whenever Bayern plays with Dortmund we will se who shall be the champ(unless M'gladbach stays in this awesome form, from playing playoffs to being a contender in less than 4 months talk about awesome management).

Yeah the Bundesliga does see some strange trends. Sometimes teams who were more likely to be battling at the bottom of the table somehow end up on top. You'll never see this sort of thing in the Premier League though.
I don't think it would be entirely fair to take the polish off what Bayern have done so far. They have not just beaten teams, they have destroyed them. Their team does look very strong all round, except perhaps in central defence. They've not just beaten teams, they have battered teams and have the by and far the best GD in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund have not been playing badly but they have not been able to get the results and are already 8 points behind Bayern and looking in bad shape in the Champions League as well. They also seem to rely a lot on Gotze and the absence of Barrios and the sale of Sahin haven't helped either.

We have this big arguement, some guys and me on a football forum in spanish, over who are the second best team in the world right now. What do you think? United and Real are equals. The difference is that Real's domestic success is hindered by geography, as they have to compete with Barca on a domestic level, as well as in Europe. In the last five years United have won four league titles and reached three Champions' League finals, but just like Real they've been found wanting against Barcelona. Just ask yourself how the two clubs would have fared if they had swopped places last season. I'd argue the results would have been much the same.

We rattled you lot today and could of easily at least drawn, Old Trafford is hexed. winning when playing badly is the sign of champions Having a shot come off the inside of your post and into your goalkeepers arms is a sign of being unbelievably fucking lucky! And you played badly because me made you. Also your fans are shit! Out-sung by 3'000 Norwich fans the whole game. It was embarrassing actually, even watching from a Norwich fans perspective. But yea, you're probably gonna win the title though unfortunately :/

It's 2011, lads, the gloryhunter argument is a bit passé.
You can watch half of the leagues in Europe on Sky Sports and ESPN, for goodness' sake.

You support the team you supported as a kid, i go to a handful of southampton matches each season but i can't pretend that the result of the game means anything to me, i'm glad they are doing well after a few seasons when the club was in real trouble, but you simply cannot fake the way you feel for the club you support onto another team no matter how close you live to that team or how many of your freinds support them. Of course i think it is better to support your local team but that doesn't mean that i can.

Judging by the way they're playing, neither can his team!
[Please note I actually have no idea how his team is playing]
