She probably is. She's storming it. And deservedly so IMO. Her album is great. I have no complaints

I'd agree that she is the biggest act in the world right now. She has a great voice no doubt and seems like a nice girl and I know although they aren't the same and its stupid to compare but I can't help but prefer Amy Winehouse over her. Adele is just too sappy sometimes at least Amy had some swagger in her music.

I don't own any of her music but I think the lass deserves it. She's not a poser like most other female 'artists'.

She's an amazing talent. I've been on the Adele bandwagon since the beginning basically.
I heard 21 on the first day that it was out and I'm still blown away by it. She has definitely become a force and with good reason. It's refreshing to see someone on top of the charts who actually has some form of talent.
So I'd say that she's definitely the biggest female act in the world, and I think years from now in retrospect she this period may be seen as the time when she was the biggest and possibly the best artists in the world.

Adele was booed onstage after revealing her plans for an arena tour next year, despite previously saying that she would never do one. Making the announcement to the crowd at the Hammersmith Apollo in London earlier this week, the Guardian quotes the singer as saying: Too many people want to see my shows… This is the last time you'll catch me at a venue like this. These will be my last theatre dates as I'm moving on to arenas. I'll be at the O2 [Arena] in February. Earlier this year Adele told Q magazine that she had no plans to play the huge London venue despite the fact that she had three nights on hold for her in the former Millennium Dome, saying: “You think I'm gonna play a fucking arena? Are you out of your mind?' I'd rather play 12 years at the Barfly than one night at the O2!” She added that “the thought of an audience that big frightens the life out of me. I don't think the music would work either. It's all too slow.” www.nme.com/news/adele/59407

She is the biggest act in the world at the moment by a mile. Biggest selling album (21) in years and the biggest selling single (Someone Like You) this year. She has been breaking records all around her this year....many records that were held by The Beatles.

Adele (like 95% of female bands/vocalists) is like an Aerosmith concert:
great for a couple of tunes, but I don't need to hear 17 of em' in a row.
Call me sexist, but I cannot tell you the last time I endured a female act's entire album straight. Noel once said (referring to the mid 90's at the time): "it was when that Elastica/girl band thing was going on- I know, girls in bands...appalling".
I just don't know what it is, but female pop/rocker vocalists sound like they're OVER singing 90% of the time...including Aleisha Keys, Adele, the broad from Evanescence, christine aguilera, the list goes on and on. And yep, I despise most "classic" female rock and pop vocalists too: janis joplin, whitney houston, etc. gross.
Adele is huge though....literally and figuratively.

But hey, it's you own taste. I find artist/bands like Cat Power, PJ Harvey, Joan Jett, The Runaways, Florence and The Machine, Adele, Janis Joplin, Hole, Ida Maria, Blondie, etc, to be amongst my favorite artists ever. I don't know what you mean by "over singing", but I would have to strain my mind to find instances in which any of above artist "over sing".

It's a VERY common criticism of the more "popular" rock/pop vocalists: Keys, Aguilera, Houston, Evanescense ...check the reviews. Adele and Joplin certainly are not immune to it either, but you have a good point with some of the others you listed.
As for me, I don't doubt that it's really just a matter of me not caring for the female voice by and large, but what are you going to do?
I DO like karen o, sheryl crow (yep, a great extremely listenable voice), shirley manson, and humrously enough for some I'm sure, Madonna so all is not lost, but 12 Adele songs back-to-back?
have fun with that.

Some here know that I'm a vocalist (dreadful word, I know), and you'd think I'd be "smarter" with my opinion on the matter, but it's simply the way I "hear" the voice, I suppose.
There's a reason why all-time top singer/song/album lists find males outnumbering females 9/1 and it isn't because everyone (women included) hates women or that there's not enough of them in the industry.
In the next breath though, I'd tell you that the VAST majority of female pop/artists are MUCH better "technical" singers than their male counterparts, but that doesn't mean they have a preferrable VOICE/sound.
so run with that one.

Her voice is extraordinary. She is one of the few female singers I really like. And I also like her appearance. She doesn't wear short skirts (no need for a low neckline either ), dances or puts on a show, her voice makes up for it. It's THAT good. She's really talented.

Also their are some fantastic female singers/bands out there right now Cat Power, Feist, Florence + the Machine, Best Coast, Cults, Stars, The Cardigans, Au Revoir Simone, Little Dragon, Metric, Slow Club, Reverie Sound Revue, hell I could go on and I didn't even mention any "classic" girl singers. Girls can hold there own in the world of pop music for sure.

Kate Bush 4. Lisa Germano 5. Laura Marling
