Noel made a comment on Radio 2 that his music is now Rock n Folk when John Simms said his music was Rock n Roll.
this pained me somewhat, its totally understandable at his age but it made me realise that i will have to look elsewhere for heavy solos etc and to be honest i wanted Noel to do it for me for a little longer.
i just hope its good Folk at least?

this is exactly what i've been referring to ever since i first heard TDOYAM. It's very folksy and it's more "folk-pop" than rock'N'folk imo.
so far, every song we've heard is more pop than rock, with the exception of TGR. That song rocks, not a whole lot, but it does rock. It's just a shame that it's not Liam the one singing it but whatever...
the conclusion i came to, was the same as yours, Noel is no longer writing songs like Live Forever, but i guess a lot of us already knew that, but is he also not gonna write songs like say... Lyla and/or TSOTL?
He just doesn't have the voice for those types of tunes. his songwriting skills have not diminished, it's just that not having Liam there to provide the great vocals is hurting him badly.

people really need to realise that this album isnt by Oasis so therefore should not expect it to sound like Oasis, Its Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.... completely different act

I love the change in direction. Eddie Vedder shifting the same way too, and it's awesome.

its just how he has progressed as a song writer. Remember he said that TSOTL was a folky tune before he got pissed at something. He is moving away from straight up rock n roll and thats a good thing because to be honest not many rock bands that are around his age can truly have that raw, rock n roll attitude anymore because you get older, you get famous, and you do lose a bit of your youthful bite. I'm not saying you can't rock in your 40's but it does tend to feel a little forced for some artists and I want Noel to release what he wants whether not what Oasis fans will dig it or not.

I could imagine nothing other than an absolute disaster if Noel made a Rock'n'Roll album at the age of 44 with him singing it. He's too old to be writing that kind of music and his voice also doesn't suit that type of music. It would be the most awful thing we would hear all year.

Now, would that have made all the more evident how much Liam's presence is missed? probably, but i'd have preferred that 100 times over what this album "seems" like it's gonna end up being. that is, excluding IIHAG and EOTR.

Oasis was a great band but there was always another side to Noel's songwriting. alot of these songs wouldn't have seen the day of light on an Oasis record because they're simply Oasis. everything i've heard so far has impressed me like Noel always does. craftsmanship; polished choones. i liked a few songs from the BDI boys but in my opinion i found that they're best stuff wasn't when they were trying to rock it. can't wait for the album.

People trying to equate the Noel's solo approach with a "softer" vibe aren't getting it. "Softer" is the kind of Top 40 pop music without any soul. Noel's new songs have soul and -- most of all -- depth. They are diverse and both lyrically and musically heavy, not "soft." Just because they don't have 10 electric guitars and 3 simultaneous guitar solos doesn't mean they are lacking some kind of toughness.
Would you call "Blowin' In The Wind" by Bob Dylan or "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young soft?

Just sounds like his stuff from Oasis with slightly different production, in fairness.
