Im confused now. The death of you and me sounds cristal clear and fantastic, you can hear easily every instrument in the song. In the other hand, If i had a gun, fantastic melody by Noel, sounds terribly loud and compressed. Somewhere behind the bass, drums and guitar there are some violins and choir (i think), but they sound buried in the mix. What a life is somewhere between the two, better than If i had a gun but not as clear as death of you and me. Do you think the versions in Noel´s youtube are in worst quality than the album ones or this is the real sound of If i had a gun (if that´s the case, while loving the song, i´m not a fan of the production at all!)

The single versions will probably sound better. Especially in lossless format.

The properly released versions will sound a lot better, and we'll be able to discuss the production a bit more accurately ;D

It is odd how there's a massive difference in production quality between The Death of You and Me and everything else we've heard. Maybe Sardy worked harder on it cos he knew it was gonna be the first single. I don't know. If I Had A Gun doesn't even sound like it was produced by the same person.

Didn't you hate TDOYAM when it came out? So much so that you made loads of negative comments and even a thread about how disappointed you were and how you can't remember the last time that Noel had released something you weren't disappointed by?

I'm reserving judgement until I hear the full album on vinyl through my B&W speakers.

Haven't we only hear radio rips of IIHAG and WIL? TDOYAM probably sounds a lot better because we have the offical version in the video and of rips of the single.

I´m not talking about youtube rips, i´m talking about the versions in the Noel Gallagher´s official youtube channel Anything on Youtube is gonna be limited in terms of sound quality. The properly released versions will sound a lot better, and we'll be able to discuss the production a bit more accurately ;D I agree - I've heard both the YouTube rip of The Death of You and Me and the Amazon mp3. The latter is much better quality and has good dynamic range, better than many Oasis tracks. The YouTube version is more compressed, for some reason. So I'm assuming the same will apply to If I had a Gun and AKA What a Life! Speaking of hearing the album in higher quality, I recently emailed HD Tracks' customer support asking if they have any plans to carry the Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds album or indeed any Oasis in hi-res format. They said that they would definitely add it to the list of titles in demand. He also said that Oasis should be on their release schedule for next year. Hopefully that would be as proper 24-bit remasters, which would be great. Having said that, HD Tracks do also sell standard music in standard CD quality too, so we'll have to wait and see. It's akin to like watching Lawrence of Arabia on a 15" computer screen, isn't it?.....My God, AKA What a Life!!.......(AKA What A Life is up there with Live Forever in my ill-informed yet humble opinion btw)

TDOYAM and TGR sound so good and its because they are the only tunes we have a high quality version of CD version of. Sure AKA...WAL was posted on youtube but I think youtube does compress the quality a bit.I can wait to hear these tunes in a lossless format.

NoelGallagherTV posted what I assume is the CD version on youtube. It definitely sounds clearer than the radio rips, imo.

AKA...WAL sounds so sublime. Sardy has done a great job in my opinion. I can understand why people might be upset about IIHAG's production but I've grown to appreciate and love it.

It´s just a big and loud mess behind Noel´s voice. Let´s hope the album version is a little better, but i don´t expect much in this one.

Well I believe the IIHAG version we have came from the radio. For those who aren't aware, all radio stations use something called a Limiter. Basically it crushes the signal and brings up the overall loudness, limiting the peaks. That's why everything on the radio sounds so damn loud these days, and your ears will get tired after listening for a while because heavy limiting creates ear fatigue. Same thing with all the TV commercials these days - ever notice how much louder they are than the actual programming? Bet you have... it's very annoying!

I would also add that the compression on radio reduces sound quality even more when stations play music that has been heavily compressed to begin with, which is the case for most pop/rock music of the last 10-15 years. There has been an experiment done which proves that less heavily compressed masters sound a lot better on the radio than brickwalled ones. You can see (and hear) the results in this article on the mastering engineer Ian Shepherd's website: "Loudness means NOTHING on the radio – The Proof" productionadvice.co.uk/loudness-means-nothing-on-the-radio/

Agree..youtube version should be fine quality to judge that Noel made a complete mess of this song. Remember he said that he had done the album himself and then send it to Sardy mix, who then immideatly travelled to london to talk to noel because i sounded like shit. I expect this is what it sounded like..I just can't believe a good producer would do something like this. On the other hand the actual mixing itself is also a mess. Very mono feel, deep booming sounds in the first verse, and electric guitars way to loud in the last chorus. Its just in total opposition to TDOYAM and TGR..AKA What A Life is somewhere in the middle..
