^ That's like saying a corvette and a dumptruck are basically the same vehicle cause they both have 350's, axles, and wheels.
I was never nuts about the SC version, this is something completely transformed.

I have the opposite impression...I actually prefer the stripped down acoustic soundcheck version...with an intensely personal song such as this one, the excess production really brings the quality of the song down on the album version.

Obviously your ears were shut at 1.18, jeez man this is an epic studio recording.

I agree with this. The electric guitar takes a bit away from it. Should have left it more stripped down. Great song nonetheless

LTBL is ok, but my god that song would have been massive if it was given more production and sound to it. Now, that's not to say IIHAG would have suffered like LTBL did (who knows, you may even like LTBL), but I'm glad it wasn't risked as I love the version he came out with. Noel does wonders when stripping songs down live - look at Wonderwall, DLBIA, Slide Away (I still prefer the full versions, but they are much more personal when acoustic, of course). So I'm more than happy to keep that stripped down sound for some of his performances.....

I'm sure he'll strip it down live one day. Then it will sound just like the soundcheck. He couldn't do all acoustic tracks. It would be too slow. No one would listen, except for us.

Let There Be Love probably DID need more production on it for it to be a great song...but IIHAG definitely doesn't. The soundcheck proves that. When a song is well-written like this, it doesn't need to be dressed up fancy for people to enjoy it. To prove my point, there is actually an electric version of Talk Tonight floating around somewhere...and my god it sounds so much worse than the simple acoustic album version. The heartfelt feeling becomes more muted with the production.

Why did he feel the need to start his own thread to share his opinion? Over inflated sense of self importance or what?

I imagine that we won't have to wait too long for an acoustic version.
I'm hoping he strips them down for some radio sessions.
The great thing about Noel is that he doesn't have a problem do different versions of his tunes. Stripping them back or building them up differently. And his delivery gets better and evolves with time on many songs.

I'm in a cocktail bar in spain with laptop... come down specifically to grab the tune which someone's emailed me. Can't wait to go whack it on the ipod. I'm already tipsy so it's going to be awesome!

I can imagine "Forgive me if I spoke to soon, my eyes will always....follow you around the room" blaring out in a stadium. Noel wouldn't sing the chorus, 18,000 fans would.

Sounds far too polished. I was prepared to eat my words and say it sounded good, because it sounded a really nice song...until he started pissing about with electric guitars and fannying on with the production.
My verdict: it started well and finished well. He's tried to do too much with the song, and I believe it could have been as good as Talk Tonight if he'd kept it bare-bones acoustic.

Agreed- by far the best version of the song. A song doesn't need to be entirely acoustic in order to have soul.

IMO there are (at least) four problems with this version:
1: Lyrics are not as good as the soundcheck version, which has been said a few times now: "forgive me if I spoke too soon..."
2: The album production doesn't have that haunting echo sound of the soundcheck version.
3: The aaahh's don't go down anymore, which I thought was beautiful.
4: I think the overall production of the song is just not good enough, there is too much going on for a song which should sound more fragile.

It sounds more unfinished than the soundtrack and it needs more choir and strings.

for all the moaning about how different this is to the soundcheck, i sense Stop The Clocks and Record Machine will be DESPISED on this forum......
just a thought...

for all the moaning about how different this is to the soundcheck, i sense Stop The Clocks and Record Machine will be DESPISED on this forum...... just a thought... The problem with IIHAG is that the soundcheck was vague enough for people to imagine what (or how great) the end result would be like. STC and RM are more or less in their full form leaving less space for people imaginations to play tricks with them.

They're playing IIHAG all the time on WFNX Boston. But then, the DJs are big Oasis fans. We're lucky here in Beantown.

for all the moaning about how different this is to the soundcheck, i sense Stop The Clocks and Record Machine will be DESPISED on this forum...... just a thought... It's not that the production is too polished, it's that it lacks dynamics. The song feels relentless when it should be fragile, beautiful and haunting. There is not enough contrast between chorus and verse, and the song's melancholy beauty is absent in Sardy's middle of the road production. I think he pitched the production towards either the Adult Alternative or Classic Rock market. Whatever the reasons, a little of the splendour has been lost in translation. That said, I'm convinced that Sardy will have done a top notch job on the album overall. I can't wait for EOTR, I think it will be a step up from the sound check. The strings and choir backing is phenomenal. What a Life also sounds like a tune that Sardy nailed. EDIT - that said, I'm hoping a higher quality version of IIHAG will improve things a little. It's a top tune and deserves more.

Maybe it's not stripped down in Milwaukee, but for most of the world, it is.....
