Dropped a bit more than I thought it would. Was thinking 13 or 14. Still a great showing for him.
Let's see what he can do with his next few singles. It will be interesting to see if he can "keep up this pace", or is he going to seriously drop off with successive singles like BDI did.

I doubt if he'll be in the Top 40 next week.

I'd expected him to be higher.. Where did you expect him to be? There weren't many people thinking Top 10. I thought Top ten until I saw he was #8 in the first midweek. So I pretty much made my mind up that he was going to chart somewhere between 13-14. One spot lower than I thought.

i can't really see Noel having a top 10 hit unless he starts appealing to 15 year old girls and gangsta chavs
which is unlikely

15 is a very good effort, imagine if the song had managed airplay on Radio 1 then surely it would have made Top 10 and even Top 5 at a push.
Hope Kasabian's new tunes charts well too, about time some real music got back near the top.

I'd expected him to be higher.. Where did you expect him to be? I don't know, I didn't think about it that rationally I just thought Noel would have had a waaaaay bigger following than Beady Eye, so therefore I'd expected him to be waaaaaay higher in the charts too. But it doesn't seem like he's going to stick there for more than 1 week and I'm very curious now to see what his next singles will do...

I'm also interested to see what the rest of his singles will do. Will the next few singles continue to be in the Top 20. Or will he be like Beady Eye, and have the rest of his songs completely fall off the map. I think a lot will depend on the fanbase, which beady eye seemed to lose with every successive single, and the also the quality of the songs. But I think that Noel should be extremely happy with Top 15. He himself said that he didnt think that he could get to the Top 10. So I would think that he'd be happy with Top 15. And his first single being 16 full spots higher than Beady Eye. (if he cares about such things )

Any single that is released before the album will go top 20. Any single released after the album will be outside the top 50.

But there is also the consideration that BDI's highest single was The Roller which is the single that came out with the album and benefited most of all the single from the hype from the album. Timing wise this single is more in the vein of FLW just with better promo. Noel has done short casual radio interviews but I am sure a lot of them were scheduled on the understanding that Noel would be making the rounds again properly in studio in a couple if months closer to the album. He hasn't done TV, live sessions. I don't even think he was in studio for any of the radio interviews. Closer to the album the rehearsals will have finished and he'll be free to travel and promote until the album drops and the tour starts. Funny thing it that it seems like he has done so much more press than BDI but you still know that this was just the tip of the promotional iceberg. The mags that have covered him will probably give him another feature in 2 months. Q, MOJO, NME, maybe even RS as they have been pretty positive about him so far and given him coverage despite him not even having music out in America. This all seems to feel a bit like a primer in prep for a big push for the album. I think he realizes from BDI that he isn't guaranteed a #1 and he needs to play it smart. I think he might possibly do better with his next single.

I should also add that I am happy with a #15 spot. Nothing to complain about considering the charting positions of bigger bands. The Arctic Monkeys peaked @ 28 with their debut from their new album in the UK.

I definitely agree with gdforever here, this was good promo but it didn't feel like he was gunning hard for a "whisper" and that's quite all right, I have a feeling that the next few singles will be treated with more work. 15 is solid solid work

I think one small thing that could have hurt the single was the time in which the single went on pre-order. For the first 48 hours when it hit YouTube, there was no preorder for the single.
I still think that the majority of the people who bought the single were going to buy it anyways, and the people who didn't, wouldn't have bought it anyways. But if it had been up for pre-oder on the day that it hit YouTube, then I think the sales would have been a bit higher.
Now did it make enough of a difference to keep him from the Top 10, No. I don't think it did. But did it make enough of a difference that it might have cost him a couple of spots, Yes. It might have cost him a couple of spots.
But that's just a small tiff. I mean in the end, what's the difference between 15 and 13.

He did debut at #9. I think that's incredible, even if it is the UK - who love and know him more than America does. #15 is solid. I hope he does stay in the Top 40 longer though. He is #4 on the Amazon charts (which dont mean crap), and debuted at #1. Been on there for 2 weeks. #51 on iTunes UK Yeah... he's got no chance to stay in the Top 40. Goddamn hiphop and rap. How can he lose to Jagger fucking swagger?

Nah, #15 is his debut. Saying he debuted at #9* is silly. (He was #8 on the first mids, by the way)

I remember the golden years when any single that wasn't a #1 was considered a failure (i.e. Who Feels Love, Sunday Morning Call, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, etc, etc). Now fans are celebrating a #15 chart entry and a million plus youtube views. I put as much stock on the singles charts as I do with box office standings. Doesn't have any significance on the music at all. As Robert Zimmerman said, the times are a changing.

It's sad and unfair but that's the way that the world is at the moment and for the age we live in number 15 is quite an achievement.

I knew Oasis' dominant run was over when 'The Shock of The Lightening' failed to go #1. Now that is a classic Oasis rocker that in 2002 would have certainly gone #1. Then again I remember the song being on the radio and youtube for a solid month before it ever went on sale. That is definitely a broken business model if an artist/label care about chart results.

Didn't TSOL go #2? None of the singles from DM went to #1, I remember hearing that after Roll With It went to #2, there became an intense obsession for every band in that era to hit #1. In all honesty, #15 is fine. It's far better than Oasis did with their debut and even BDI.

In all honesty, #15 is fine. It's far better than Oasis did with their debut and even BDI. Well I was referring more to the golden years. Morning Glory on and such. TSOL was alarming because it was the first debut single off a post DM album of theirs that did not go to #1. Some Might say, D'You Know What I Mean?, Go Let It Out, The Hindu Times, and Lyla all went #1. I consider TSOL a better song than half of those. The rest of the single off DOYS only did worse and Beady and Noel's solo career are not doing any better. The business model is broken that is all I am saying. Name won't work alone anymore and it doesn't matter how good a song is these days.

Any single that is released before the album will go top 20. Any single released after the album will be outside the top 50. Agreed. There is a reason The Beatles released singles independent of their albums. Why would you buy a single when the tune is on your album? Makes sense. Chart positions really are irrelevant as a measuring stick for success. #15 is actually quite high given the "whisper" that TDOYAM is. If the next single is as good as people are saying it is, then a top 10 should be achievable. But let's be honest, #1 is highly unlikely, ever.
