Just wondering if anyone thinks that IIHAG can make a dent in America. And I don't mean charting on the Hot 100. I mean, it just gain some kind of success. Such as charting well on a US Rock chart (Alt. Rock chart or Mainstream Rock chart). Whatever you term as a "dent" or "success". Do you think that IIHAG has a chance to at least a small bit of success? Or is it destined to be The Roller and get no airplay whatsoever in the states?
I know some will say "who cares about charts and America?" If you feel that way, then brilliant. I'm just asking opinions on what kind of success IIHAG could get in the states, if any.

Without the Oasis brand, I don't think "Noel Gallagher" will go far in the US, no matter how good the song is. I hope I'm wrong, but it'll be difficult without that brand supporting his music stateside......[Americans knew who Oasis were, for better or for worse. They don't know who Noel Gallagher is. Therein lies the problem].

Well recently Noel's getting tons of exposure here in canada. On MTV canada during the commercials, i've seen like 10 times TDOYAM shown, like a little 25 second clip, giving the artist and song name, which never happened with oasis, so... you never know.

i would love it if it happened but ... let's see, i think Noel could pull it off, it will all come down to his label and the work they do for the album/single. take Gavin Rossdale for example, a couple of years ago he had what you might consider a "hit" and he was in what, Bush? lol i know i know... that band was very successful here but still. The dude did tons of promo work, visited countless alternative radio stations, and got his video on VH1's countdown shitty show. that helped him a great deal. I could see Noel doing something similar but who knows, really....

Coupled with the quality of the songs. I would assume that he might be willing to do more promo than usual and that his label is pretty behind him, because of the listening party that apparently the Mercury Records chief was throwing for Noel to promote his new album to some US journalist, radio producers, and some industry people. I don't know if he ever did that for Oasis in America. If someone could find that out, that would be nice.

Depends on if he plays the game in the US. Everything about American culture is contrived and based entirely on an advertisement culture. He needs to play that game; Oasis didn't and this probably led to their lack of widespread success. The media tells Americans what's good and what's bad, it's those networks or the people who work for them that he needs to impress.

I hope I'm wrong, but it'll be difficult without that brand supporting his music stateside......[Americans knew who Oasis were, for better or for worse. They don't know who Noel Gallagher is. Therein lies the problem]. I think there could be more to that than you realize. I understand that the name Oasis means a lot to some. But most Oasis fans recognize the name Noel Gallagher. He loses the brand Oasis...but his name is not an unknown quantity either. And he isn't resisting being billed as "former lead singwriter of Oasis." It's not like BDI where you'd have to have been looking to know who they were in relation to Oasis. And there are also positives to it. Oasis had a reputation. A reputation for being unprofessional. A reputation for being difficult. A lot of the a regrettable hangover from the 90's. Noel has a chance to leave a lot of that behind him He was always seen as the more responsible Gallagher and he doesn't have to do much to prove that. I said before that starting with a clean slate with the press and radio people wouldn't be a horrible thing. And it seems that the label is putting some effort into this. And I'll bet Noel will too. He may even have more opportunities than Oasis did since it didn't seem that Oasis were the type of group that people thought to reach out to since Oasis always seemed so aloof with their assert of "who cares about America anyways" I don't think that Noel will dominate anything...but I think he'll do better than BDI. He is more of a brand. He'll promote more extensively. He's got bigger backing. He has preexisting relationships. Hid music is probably more commercial...considering the dirth of amazing singles on DGSS. Noel always wrote the best singles in Oasis...no reason for that to change now.

I'm actually getting the feeling that being on his own is going to help Noel. Obviously the name Oasis brings more exposure, but in the US it also brings a negative reaction with a majority of casual listeners. Now, though, it seems Noel is being portrayed as the mature, talented ex-Oasis songwriter with more to offer than the bullshit they became famous for. The fact that he's not associated with Liam and his antics is going to serve him well in the press here. I'm not saying he's going to be hugely successful or universally lauded, but I do think it helps him quite a bit.
The press in the US can point to the past when Liam ditched the band on MTV Unplugged and of course the famous spitting at the VMAs. Those are the images most casual US fans have of Oasis. I think Noel is going to have a leg up as far as his overall image goes.
As far as where IIHAG could make a dent, I would hope they shoot for the VH1 crowd. Noel's 44 afterall and he's steering away from the youthful sound of Oasis for more of a mature style. I think TDOYAM could've been relatively successful on the Adult Top 40 and VH1. My mom said she liked it, same with TIOBI. You can get away with that catchy vintage vibe with the older crowd. He won't stand a chance going against the Biebers and Gagas.

He's right, Noely has no chance going against Gaga and Katy Perry on the charts. I mean, he's not even on iTunes in the US. He's nonexistent in America. The first thing they need to do is get him on iTunes, then try to publicizes the hell outta him.
I've heard the soundchecks of IIHAG, like everyone, and I have a feeling that it could do some damage here in America, though it depends what the studio recording sounds like. TDOYAM might do more damage because it is upbeat and flows perfectly.
The brand of Oasis would help him, but to tell you the truth, I don't think it would make a difference if he released his new songs under the Oasis brand. No one here even knows who Oasis even were. It was astonishing when I heard they they new a few hits that weren't Wonderwall.
Time will only tell. He needs to play it right. He's got no chance on the charts if he goes against Coldplay, like he is now. Or maybe it could help him. Americans can be tricked into listening to rock music for a while.
Oh and know doubt he will demolish the Alternative Rock charts.

Any press or airplay he has received is just residual from his UK push. I think that when the first American single is played, presumably Tuesday, is going to be the day that it pops up of iTunes. It's still over 2 months away in America and Noel isn't a big enough name there to maintain hype for too long. They'll need to pull out the stops closer to the release date if they hope the maximize the hype. The UK album is on sale 3 weeks before the US version. And it's only been 1 month since the first airplay of TDOYAM in the UK. He really isn't that far behind schedule in America comparitively really. He'll really only have released music 2 weeks closer to the album in America than in the UK. As for being up against Coldplay...he's releasing 2 weeks after them so hopefully it shouldn't be that big a deal. I think you guys are right that he hasn't got a massive chance of getting on the Hot 100...but a good showing on the Alt Rock charts would be great. Or even the Adult Contemporary. It'll be interesting to see where his album charts. BDI charted @ 31 with very little ground level promotion when the album dropped. They weren't even in the country. We know that Noel is planning on being @ least in the country when it drops presumably doing promo. His last UK gig is Oct 31 so if he comes out right after that he can be stateside doing promo the week before the album.

Yeah, he's suppose to be hear in November. So presumably during the release of HFB.
I think that he has a good chance of making some type of showing on the alt. charts. Jeff has said that he believes that IIHAG will get played College Radio, and some Alt./Classic Rock stations. And he thinks that it may have a shelf life a couple of weeks.
Which I agree with. I think a shelf life of a couple of weeks sounds pretty spot on. The only way I could see it doing more than that is if Mercury pushes for it hard, or if the quality of the song is so good, that other stations alt./classic rock stations will be forced to play it.
I think one thing that will definitely help is what Jeff somewhat alluded to. And that would be the excitement for Noel's solo stuff, and the belief that he'll deliver something good. I think the novelty and excitement and anticipation for his solo stuff will greatly help it, and maybe push it to being something a bit more than a song with a shelf life of a couple of weeks. MAYBE those factors could push for it to get steady airplay for 4-6 weeks. Which is really what he'll need to get in order to do anything on any chart.

Yes I think it will be a worldwide hit. From what I've heard and the reaction I've had from my girlfriend who only likes wonder wall and describes most oasis and the music I like as boring boy music. Might as well stick my neck out and call it....
I dont think the oasis brand thing will do him any harm. Most people outside the uk wont know who he is and will most likely have anti oasis prejudices. That's the way it is in Australia.
He will just be a fresh artist and that could be a good thing.
Who had heard of Adele and she has been dominating the charts world wide just because she can write and sing a hood song.
It comes down to the quality of the tune and the fact it's a love song about un requited or lost love then it's half way there.
