Everyone seems to love this line.
It sounds cool but I don't really get what it means.
Anyone want to help me out and explain it?

Big Brother is wathing youand all that isn't it? The book 1984 from Orwell springs to mind, even though I doubt Noel has read it

I like the lyric as a whole, but I think it doesn't really fit into the overall feel of the song. Maybe it's just me, but kinda sticks out like a sore thumb in an upbeat bouncy song.

its just a simple play on words. 1984 rings a bell but I don't think it fits the context of the song.

This line is kind of a ripoff of a Neil Young line, from the song Speakin' Out, from Tonight's The Night. Go to 2:30 in this clip.
"I'll be watching my TV/And it'll be watching you."
