The sound of the album is very nice, but I find the choruses of all the songs rather plain.

The sound of the album is very nice, but I find the choruses of all the songs rather plain. I agree. I listened to the whole album whilst meticulously browsing for cds in my local record store the other day, as it was playing on the speakers. I like the dynamic restraint and tightness of it as opposed to Stadium Arcadium, but the melodies are generic overall and the guitar playing - while refined and economic - has no explosive punch to it like Frusciante once had (not to mention what he provided when it came to writing melodies). But it is better than I expected, I'll give them that. I doubt I would ever fork out a red lobster to buy it though.

I think the album is really good, it's no masterpiece, but it's one of the best albums this year... I think it sounds a little bit like early Muse (I might be mad for saying that)... Especially the first track, it seems as if it could fit onto Origin of Symmetry... Anyway, overall, good album. Worth the tenner it costs

Not too many standout tracks on it, but it works start to finish and it's better than I expected it to be when I found out Frusciante (who I think was incredibly underrated as a guitarist/songwriter/backing vocalist) left.

John Frusciante is one of my fave artists/musicians, his work on 'Mother's Milk' and 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' is second to none. i've only heard the first single off the new album, i'll have to checkout the rest........

^There are actually four of five tracks on the album that are better than the single.

I was very disappointed as well, although Ethiopia and Look Around are my favourites. You can see how much of a difference Frusciante made

To be fair, the Chili's have been in the game for 28 years now. And as a bunch of near 50 year olds you can't expect too much more than a generally okay collection of songs. I mean who bar Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen writes their best stuff when their over 50?
