I've pre ordered the album (either at NG.com or Itunes, can't remember) but now I am wondering-- what is the best format? FLAC, MP3, lossless.
Can someone please explain the benefits of FLAC & Lossless? How big are they? An average 320lbps MP3 is 6-8mb... how about FLAC & Lossless? Are they all compatible with iPods?

By Lossless do you mean Apple Lossless? If so,then you should go for apple lossless and stick it in your ipod.FLACs are about 30-50 mb and i think apple lossless are slightly bigger.FLAC and Apple Lossless are lossless formats and they are better from mp3 which is a lossy format.

You can't import FLAC files to iTunes as far as I know so don't go for them if you've got an iPod

If you have an ipod. Go with Apple lossless so you can easily import into itunes.
You can import flac into itunes but you have to convert them to .wav first using winamp then you can convert them into intunes. The bad part about that is you may lose the tags. Meaning you may have to fill in album and track number for each track.
In short both flac and apple lossless will do but flac is a couple more steps involved

My understanding (which could be and probably is wrong) is that Lossless doesn't work with anything other than iTunes, and Flac doesn't work WITH iTunes. Both are better quality than MP3 but MP3s are far less hassle.
