Hi all, forgive me if this has been discussed before or if there is a topic on this already. If there is I apologize. But I often find myself wondering why Alan was sacked/left the band. It was never quite clear, was it? With the other band members there has always been a bit of explanation given in regards to their departure (Tony- drumming skills/not getting on with boss Noel, Guigs-left via fax having had enough, Bonehead-left wanting to spend more time with family, etc) but not with Alan.
When going to the ever-so-trusting wikipedia, it alluded to the fact that Alan had personal problems. At another point it mentions Alan was getting upset due to the fact his drumming was being mixed lower and lower in the recordings and was getting frustrated with the fact drum loops were becoming more prevalent in the songs. But of course neither of these points are backed up with a definite "this is the reason why he left."
Hasn't Steve spoken up online or in an interview as well in regards to his brother's absence from Oasis? From what I can remember, Steve showed signs of bitterness and resentment towards Oasis but the exact words he used slip my mind.
So with this I ask you, has anything else come to light in regards to Alan's departure from the band? I always liked him as a drummer. To me, he represented a familiar and likable face in the band amongst all the ruckus and hoopla surrounding the Gallagher brothers. Don't get me wrong, Gem and Andy filled their roles nicely, but to me, when Alan left, Oasis was no longer the Oasis we grew to love during the mid 90's. Isn't Alan on here anyway? Wonder if he would be up for a friendly Q&A for the fans..
Anyway, I'll leave this open to thoughts and responses.

Noel sacked him when Alan didn't turn up for a band meeting either just prior to recording DBTT or early in the recording sessions. Noel says (in a 2008 Mojo interview) that it was one of 4 big meetings the group ever had. Andy came back to the UK from his home in Sweden, but Alan, who had an American wife, supposedly 'stayed on holiday'.
Noel claimed Liam wanted Alan out for this (or some other) reason and Noel sided with Liam. Liam said (in the same article) that he was never invoved in any hiring and firing decisions through the band's history and responsibilty for Alan's exit was all on Noel.
The article summed it up to Liam by saying 'you're each other's alter egos, one's Batman and the other's Bruce Wayne then you swtich around', smiling Liam replied 'I like that'.

Another case of Noel's version and Liam's version with this one.
I've no doubt that the other band members left because of Noel's insistence over how the band should sound - particularly from SOTSOG onwards.
The rumour was, is that Alan had missed some meetings and had become lazy. Whether this is true or not who knows.
Alan was Liam's last "drinking" buddy to leave after Bonehead and Guigs. Noel would also in the early days but he seamed to gradually drift away towards the end anyway.
