I love the Velvet Underground, but it seems as if not many people give them credit. Some people just see them as a band that critics have lauded praise on (which I find stupid, because up till about 20-25 years ago; they were hated by the critics.). But anyways, I find them to be a great great great band. Songs like Pale Blue Eyes, I'm Waiting For The Man, There She Goes Again, White Light/White Heat, etc.

They're just a brilliant band. The sad thing is that it's not the general public who seems to take this band for granted, but even some people on this forum. So why is it that most people on see the Velvet Underground as some band that critics have lauded, and nothing else?

Because it's easy to hate the critical darling (see: another band who's name I won't mention out of fear of derailing the thread). But The VU fucking rock, they're an amazing band. I find ...And Nico to be a bit overrated, I prefer their self-titled third album (Murder Mystery is amazing) and Loaded.

Lou Reed's great, too.
