...once a band changes their sound? Is it due to plain ignorance or their own idea of being stuck in the past?
quote from a user from Blabbermouth on the bashing of Morbd Angel's album:

Depends really. Take Kings Of Leon who changed their sound to make money, for example. I'm still upset over that. Magnificent first 2 albums.

If you like the sound of the band, why would you want it to change to something that you may very well hate.
Look how we all responded to the re-mixes of Oasis! They replaced the traditional bside for DOYS, and we all went bat shit crazy.
Think what would have happened if Oasis 8th album turned out to be a set of dance and remix tracks! That's not the Oasis we know and love. Simple as that.

However I won't get mad at a band for simply changing. It's inevitable and it won't stop my like/love of a band...it's just when it's clear they don't enjoy making that music. You can always tell by listening closely.

It can be frustrating or sad when a band moves in to an area you don't like anymore. But getting angry over it is a bit absurd.
As long as they are doing it because they want to and aren't chasing a trend or pandering then fair play to them. You can just stop listening and write it off as not your bag. Artists don't make music for you.
I worried about that with BDI...that they were moving to far from my areas of interest when BTL came out. To a type of music I just don't find interesting. Ironically they ended up being disappointingly safe in their influences.

Can you blame them for making money? guarantee that every single on of you on here would change your sound if you were a band if it meant making a lot more money. The new stuff is good anyway.

I don't get annoyed when a band develops their sound... Take Muse, for example... People complain that they changed their sound... They didn't, they developed it... The Resistance was a development on what they had already... they still have their Space-Rock that all their fans love... But they also made the songs appeal more to the average person... A lot of people didn't get Muse before The Resistance... but then songs like Uprising and Undisclosed Desires are more widely accepted...
In fact, Oasis is another example... but they developed over years... They somehow got from young, energetic Brit Pop, to a psychedelic rock band... They did that over 7 albums... but it was still fucking class
However, I do agree with the things being said about bands like Kings of Leon that changed their sound for money... They COMPLETELY changed in one album... I admit, I got into them because of Only By The Night... but it made me listen to the other albums... And after that, I completely saw where the old fans were coming from... they went from a gritty, raw, rock band... to a pop band... It's not what those fans were about...
I think that people have a right to complain if a band completely CHANGES their sound... But a lot of bands will develop their sounds... it will still have their old roots... In that instance, they shouldn't complain
