How many do you reckon it would have sold if everything about it was identical except the band name has stayed 'Oasis'?

Probably 1million. But the album lacks the one "hit" you need these days to sell a shitload of records.

It sold last checked (which was like 2 years ago), 116,000 copis in the YS. And it sold 200,000 plus in Japan for sure. So you can make the case that DOYS sold around 1.5-1.7 million worldwide. So about 6x DGSS.

Too little to actually be relevant on the music scene worldwide.

I don't think that DGSS in neccessarily a better album. I do think it is more commercial though. I think it'd probably do closer to DBTT numbers than DOYS.
It's lacking a Lyla or TIOBI...but it's singles would probably be slightly more radio friendly than the DOYS ones.

But DBTT was released in 2005. If you take in account the decline of sales by pirating, then I think you could make the case that technically, DBTT and DOYS had the same album sales.

300k worldwide seems a bit low in my book. on the wikipedia article it says about 1.5M. maybe thats a bit much. so arent there any sources for exact sales figures?

When you don't sell enough to get certification in a country I think it's pretty hard to measure sales easily.

I'm sure the drop off was dramatic. It didn't last long in the charts.

300k-400k is about right based on mediatraffic estimates it did 224k, in its first 5 weeks. it has now basically dropped out of every top100 album chart in the world.. even in the uk it is only selling roughly 1.5k a week

Who the fuck put that figure on wikipedia? A deluded fanboy vagina perhaps This. Although Wikipedia is marvellous, when it comes to album sales it's only accurate about 50% of the time. Its hard to filter out the deluded fans who inflate sales.

I posted pretty precise figures in the 2nd post. You, sir, just got owned. Yeah thats about as precise as plucking random figures from the air...they would be precise for about the 4/5 week of sales.
