Gem and Andy are not very good vocalists, and the use of women on BTL is enough of an example to prove the point. Anyone who claims otherwise is "blinded by what they idolize". Noel worked on his craft and the results show in the way he sings and projects himself. It's almost effortless with Noel. Andy and Gem seem very out of place whenever they open their mouths. THIS There appears to be no confidence when gem and andy open their mouths.

andy and gem are fine songwriters, average singers, great musicians, and as I'm watching more and more videos of them live...extremely boring to watch.

I agree that Gem looks like he is having a good time. Andy looks almost dead most of the time, once a shoegazer aways a shoegazer

the backing vocals on the rock werchter bootleg are fucking shocking, even if gem is mixed a bit too high it's still terrible.

Its not possible that they thought female backing vocals might be right for that particular song? I take it the use of women on 'The Boy With The Blues' was because Noel wasn't up to it?

Do I miss Noel's backing vocals pre-DBTT tour? Definitely.
I must be in the minority here though because they got on my tits big time after that. They were far too loud and drowned out Liam. Granted, that was mainly because Liam's vocals were shite, but still.

Not at all. They were great on Cast No Shadow in 1996 but recently they were awful and often ruined the songs. Andy is infinitely better as a backing vocalist because he actually accepts that he's a backing vocalist. Noel tried to dominate Liam and it sounded ridiculous. Don't think Noel tried to dominate Liam. Noel was trying to make the song sound good and Liam didn't sound good so Noel had to do it himself.

Andy seems to be a boring guy. He does anything onstage... Gem however is not that bad. Anyway, I think Andy has a beautiful voice despite he's not a good vocalist. I discovered because of this:
