The Vaccines' album is rather good, and REMs Collapse into Now is pretty awesome too. My favorite so far is the View's Bread and Circuses - I think they don't get the attention they deserve here. So far 2011 has been a great year for music.

I've not really heard many new albums this year... But Foo Fighters- Wasting Light and Beady Eye- Different Gear, Still Speeding are up there for me... Kasabian's one will be massive... and I'm looking forward to the debut album from The Lysergic Suite... That'll be a mega album!

Not technically released yet, but The Grand Theatre Vol. 2 by the Old 97's is my favorite so far.
Suck It and See is also excellent.

^ Same, I love Nightingale also. I was actually hanging out with Erland Cooper's cousin the other night.
Most pleasantly surprising album is Suck It And See, while Build A Rocket Boys by Elbow and Collapse Into Now by REM have also been great.

My favourite LP of 2011 would be David Comes To Life by Canadian hardcore band Fucked Up. I hadn't heard of them prior to the release of this record (a double vinyl / 78 minute CD), but they're far better than the gimmicky name (which unfortunately serves only destroy any chance of manistream publicity) would suggest.
It's an incredible piece of "amps on 11" hard rock / punk with washes of deafeningly loud but deliberately overdubbed, melodic guitar. If you're a guitar player or alternative music fan in general, I can't imagine you not loving this set of songs. The shouted vocals seem to be a stumbling block for a lot of people, but the words are surprisingly good if you read the lyric sheet.
Anyways, give 'em a listen if you get a chance. My favourite song off the record:

Sam Roberts Band - Collider (I'm a bit of an SR fanboy tbh) Crystal Stilts - In Love With Oblivion The Twilight Singers - Dynamite Steps Manchester Orchestra - Simple Math The Joy Formidable - Big Roar Iroha - Iroha (great shoegaze/drone metal record, very chill) Decemberists latest album deserves a nomination Not their biggest fan but I liked the two singles I heard earlier this year, I might give the album a go.
